Thinking about a set of Grado SR125x. From what I've heard about them, I think I'd really like the sound signature. However, I noticed Grados don't have removable cables. I'm pretty darn rough on cables. Just how fragile are connectors? Is the fragility of cables and connectors overexagerrated? Are these worth the spend for me or will they just end up broken?

I would strongly recommend demoing them if you can. I demo'd the 60s, 80s, 125s and they were each super sibilant. The upper range was just way too much for me. The 300s sounded substantially better than the others with much less piercing high end with really cool wide but stout soundstage. Really good separation/imaging. If the "rock sound" is piercing treble I'm not into it.

I always make it a point to tell anyone purchasing audio (subjective things) to purchase if possible from a reputable retailer with a no-questions-asked type return policy, try them, and make sure they are to your liking.
Hope this helps...

I have the SR225x's and love them. A forward midrange and good bass does it for me. The cables are like buggy whips but it is what it is. I enjoy them enough that I'm stepping up to the RS2x's for Christmas. Check out the Grado Fan Club thread.

Not a fan of Grado, personally. I recommend listening to them before purchasing, or at the least, follow iFi audio's advice and buy from a place with a good return policy.
Regarding the cables, they will twist on you with a Grado set and this leads to problems. The cables are also clumsy and heavy.

I've had them and would really try them first. The comfort is a love or hate situation. The imaging on the 325 was excellent, bass wasn't that good. Removable cables sound like a must.
I use a Hifiman he5xx which you can find on eBay for near that price. Cables are easy to find, also the HD6XX have dropped there too. I have the AKG K371 which sounds good with Harman tuning and comes with several cable sets in the box for about the same money. They're easy to drive and about the same size as Grados.

The cable on new grado x range is hideous
They are quiet easy to convert to detachable on the plastic and metal cups but the wooden ones are a lot more work
The ones below I just cut the cable and soldered two sockets on to the cable
