What are you running them off ?

Looks like a Valhalla but I can't see enough tubes and looks a bit small.

I had a Woo WA6 specifically for the HD600 but frankly I didn't get the appeal so it has gone down the road. I prefer mine off my iFi Diablo.

That said, I am feeling the itch for a Vali 3.

What is the mod, looks like a bit of dunny paper behind the drivers

HD600 with Custom Cans mass damping rings and Forza Audio Works cable into EarMen ST-Amp.

The price barely rates as mid fi in some folks opinion but the performance certainly does. Always a refreshing listen after my usual IEM rotation.

Who else has a pair tucked away not used much because they are not the flavour of the month ?

I really like the HD 600, I have tried the whole Sennheiser line-up side-by-side and I enjoy the HD 600 the most by a lot.

I didn't hear the "tube sound" that people talk about with mine, to me they sound like an HD600 on anything decent. Something really specific might add some special sauce but in my experience it is just a dash of that sauce not a big slathering that is really obvious.

I spent four times the price of the HD600 on a Woo WA6 tube amp that is supposed to be very 'tubey' and some highly regarded NOS tubes from a reputable local specialist and the combination did nothing for me at all to come even close to warranting the cost.

YMMV but I would most definitely try before you buy.

It might simply be that you are not a fan of the HD600, they are unspectacular which to me is the appeal. There is nothing standout except they just sound realistic and nice which sometimes is enough. They sound boring after a diet of IEM in particular with a leaning towards detail and extended BA and EST treble but that makes the HD600 a refreshing change at times.

Crazy build quality on this one. KZ ZS10 Pro2.
The original was a bit rough around the edges, needed just a touch of very fine sandpaper. No, I'm not kidding.
This one is very well built though. For 40 Eur. Well done!

What's the sauce at sony mwiA that makes it gel with this?

My thoughtscare the Sony has a mid forward signature that stops the low end overpowering the frequency range the Audeze us a very flat tuning which presents music with everything playing at the same level so no part stands forward.

Midfi applies to everything. Headphones, iems, DAPs, DACs, amps, etc.

Sort of cross posting, I left this comment on another thread I am visiting.

It's an interesting amp, but it's not what I expected. I didn't do thorough homework.
Several pages on the Head-Fi thread, and I would have known better,
but it turned out to be a good thing; I got almost everything I previously wanted in the last SS amp.

It's crisp sounding and has extension in treble/mid and bass regions.

HD600 sound more exciting, less flat (there is a bass now )...I'd rather use clear/crisp terms than just bright.
I will probably use them more often now.

Let me know if anyone has a recommendation for tubes that would make it sound more warm and tubey.
I did read a couple of recommendations; another few wouldn't hurt.

I would recommend this little thing unless you are not exclusively looking for a tube sound.

I'm very much enjoying the HD600's. They did not come from a tucked away place though, but almost right from the store, as they are my latest headphone purchase
Had the HD650, but found it too thick in the upper bass, and I'm liking the 600's way more. So the 650's are sold now, the new owner is very happy

I find the HD600's just a tad more warm in the sound on my OTL amp, but nothing huge, and right now they are plugged into the Aune S17, where I'm also thoroughly enjoying them.

An Iem that when released was $1200 can now be picked up for $300 My new Planar is an old Planar the Audeze Euclid 18.5mm Planar that sounds like an over ear headphone. This Planar is incredibly source dependent on the Sony NE-MW1A it sounds like the best Planar iem I've ever heard warm, spacious analogue with super layers and no fatiguing peaks on the Cayin N3Ultra it's a bloated mess, the iBasso DX170 sound not bad the Hiby RS2 back to bloated mess.

The answer was morph it set to iSine20 headphone setting on Shanling M6Ultra with Riku buds hybrid tips sounds phenomenal

The CFA Black Star is a great IEM, shame that I missed in purchasing it when it was released.

Another CFA IEM that's really good is the Fathom, just released at $1049; and is an all BA IEM.

I wouldn't consider a $1,xxx mid-fi though but Fathom on the summit level is definitely a great one

$1k isn’t cheap by any measure, but it’s nowhere near TOTL. By definition it’s mid-fi since it doesn’t cleanly fit into any price genre
