  It is worth noting that InnerFidelity's review is a bit of an anomaly, as most other comparisons rank the PSB M4U 2's as "the best sounding noise-cancelling headphones". The Crutchfield advisors I talked to said that the PSB M4U 2 had the best sound quality at that price range.

Barely any of those sites have reviewed both the polk audio ultrafocus 8000 and psbm4u2. Its not a anomaly.
The ones that have bring down the rating because of the noise cancelling

Mr speakers mad dog. Not super portable, but for the money, by far the best bang for your buck. And will easily be scaled up to a high quality system if you decide to buy a high quality amp.

Yes, I was about to mention that, InnerFidelity's review of noise cancelling headphones ranked it as the best. And I was referring to the Ultrafocus 8000 as the "ultrafocus", I am fully aware that the brand name is Polk.

I'm using these as portable, maybe a bit bulky but it's surely doable. Atleast get a decent amp though (A fiio e11 for example will do at minimum, but if you're willing to you should dish out some more money).

I probably won't be looking into the Mr speakers for a portable pair, because I want one easy to drive with an Ipod or a phone. I am looking into high end DAP, but it just won't be for right away.
 
I've seen your recommendations for cans with active noise cancelling, but that's not something necessarily on my check list. I'd say that it's a plus, and that I'd go for it as long as it doesnt alter the sound too much. By the way, is the PSB M4U 1 exactly the same as the number 2, but without the noise cancelling options, or are there differences in terms of sound sig, SQ etc. ?
 
I live in London, but I havent managed to find a shop with a decent selection of headphones that you can actually try before buying them, so I'll probably buy blindly and see what happens...

So in the end, I broke it down to the Sennheiser Momentum and the NAD Viso HP50.
All the other cans I looked at, despite seeming very promising, all had something which I think would have annoyed me in the short term (bad microphonics) or in the long term (weak durability).
 
Since durability and microphonics are key when you travel or simply walk around a lot, I decided to choose between these two pairs. I'll probably start by trying the momentum, especially since its on sales on amazon.fr ...
 
Anyone wishes to make a final suggestion/comment before I pull the trigger ?
