What are people's opinions on using 1/8 to RCA splitter adapters (when going from a powered 1/8 source to an amplifier RCA input to be amplified again)? I've been avoiding them as it seems an unintended signal for going into an RCA input, like a poor quality preamp. I've always thought sound quality would suffer and noise could be a potential issue. I see them mentioned often especially when interfacing a computer sound card to a stereo amplifier/receiver.

Are these adapters safe to use and will they have any negative sonic results?

Assuming that the ground conductors on the RCA inputs are connected (either to the chassis or inside the box), electrically it's the same connection. I prefer RCAs for interconnection because I can independently wire the channels, but I don't notice any other differences.
