its comparable to interpolation with digital images. imagine the sensor of a camera is only capable of capturing images with a resolution of 1500x1000px. marketing says we need more so they make the software to calculate average values between the pixels. then you can advertise with a resolution of 3000x2000px.

Funny but I was going to start a similar thread myself, but with a slightly different question. Some dac manufacturers say that oversampling makes their dacs better, and it would seem that they feel the higher the oversampling rate the better the dac is. Others (Schiit with their Bifrost for example) laud the fact that their dac does NOT oversample at all, and they say that THAT makes their dac better sounding. Is one approach better than the other, or are we talking about two paths that both end up at the same place audibly speaking.
