Pictures of Your *Budget-Fi* Portable Rig (< $200)

Hmmm... i just double checked their website. They've actually still got the original sill for sale at $8.50 and the new memory foam ones for $12.25 which come in pleather and velour.
I do like the originals a lot, but it makes me wonder what the difference is. The original ones feel like clouds on my head! :dt880smile:

Yup, I was going to sell my SHR440 the same day they arrived because stock pads were so stiff and hot on my ears. So happens I had some HM5 pads arrive that day and threw them on. Now SHR440 are one of my favourite headphones and incredibly comfortable when listening laying down. Your ears just sink into the cush cush goodness!

The new ones are compared to Alpha Pads from Mad Dog...

The man knows his ear pads!

I dont know if I'd like the thicker ones. I feel like the density in these original ones is just right. I didn't like the stock Pro 80 pads because they were too thin and too dense.

Well Math, looking at this rig albeit you did get it at a steal of a price (come to think of it I think we should start a "Look what I stole" thread) for when someone gets a killer deal off the retail price of a system, this rig needs to be in the sub $200 thread like this one does

Well I may be stretching this one a little there

My feelings have always been these threads were based on retail new cost and this system is not a sub $200 system by far. Not that I don't appreciate that you got a deal on the DAP and phones but I just can't call it a budget/sub $200 system

Nice rig!
But the X3 (Memory Card) & PortaPros are over $200, better posted in the *Mid-Fi* area.

All is good then!
I was wondering if it was a B&H sale X3, great price on them.

I'd love to have more comfortable pads for my porta pros. Those grado bowls work pretty well? Hard to get on?

I ended up putting some $3 50mm daichi foam pads on my pair which not only improved comfort but also balanced the sound more to my liking. The pads are thicker than the stock ones which moves the driver slightly further from my ear and reduces bass bloat while bringing the highs out a bit more.

Ipod Nano 16gb $127, Koss Porta Pro 25th Anniversary $50 (just using the headband), Koss KSC75 (just using the drivers) $19, Daichi earpads $3. Total $199.

You have to make a baffle extender to put the Grado pads on, basically a big flat doughnut which can be attached with double sided tape or glue if you want a more permanent arrangement.

Like the above pads, the bowls place the drivers a little further from your ears which tames the bass.

I can't approve, we (you) created the budget <$200 and $200-$600 threads for a reason and based on retail system pricing hence the different system cost threads. Like I mentioned before let's start a "Look what I stole" thread for those who shopped or as the Knight told Indiana "Chose Wisely" in their second hand purchases

Man you know I love that leather case on your X3

I'm sorry, did not mean to ruin the spirit of this thread. Yes, we should have a 'used-fi' thread.
