I always found the Threshold, Krell, and Forte’ stuff too bright for my tastes
Am familiar with Threshold, def not too "bright" for my tastes.

Never heard Krell or Forte, and can't find them on any streaming service, :relieved:

If you get the the Klipsch for cheap <$100, that could be a nice nearfield system.

The Elacs are harder to drive. 87db/6 ohm vs 93db/8 ohm for Klipsch.

The Klipsch are under $100. How do you think they'd compare to the ProMonitor 800?

in regards to the Elac being harder to drive, would that be noticeable at nearfield levels?

Polk Monitor series from the early 80s. Monitor 4a or 5b are small and should be efficient enough. -- 89db.

This is the problem I run into. I have no idea what most of these speakers are and trying to sort the wheat from the chaff is quite the task.

Sad to note the passing of Melanie, who is remembered for Lay Down (Candles in the Rain.) Melanie Safka, 1947-2024.
Sad news indeed.

One of the pleasures of signing up to Qobuz has been to be able compare the versions of "Carolina In My Mind" by Kate Rusby, James Taylor (his later, more laid-back version) and Melanie, and appreciate their different approaches to the song, and to performance in general. On this track, as on others, Melanie cuts loose from the expected performance, which I certainly enjoy, though I think the recording engineer might not have as they seemed to be struggling to keep up :)

I've appreciated Melanie's freedom of expression and enthusiasm, I find it refreshing and engaging, so I'm saddened to hear this.

Well, I know what I'll be listening to tonight.

Hey, that way it clears the wall wart underneath.
Would also work well in a house like @Ripper2860 's. 🤣

If we're speaking of albums that are particularly enjoyable to listen to--Black Country, New Road's second album "Ants From Up There" is top shelf enjoyment IMHO. Currently listening on Qobuz on the PC to the Hel+ feeding my Focal Celestee Headphones :)

The correct way to install a NEMA 15-2r receptacle is with the parallel ground [round] pin on top. Most commercial electrical installs comply, but most consumer installs do not.
Also the NEMA 20R receptacles (rated 20A) should not be installed on typical older home circuits rated for only 15Amps.

In recently constructed homes I have seen most outlets installed ground-pin down, except for switch-controlled ones that are usually installed ground-pin up.

Then all the writing on my GFCI outlets would be upside down. 😏
