Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

And now I’m starting to eye the “last call” Valhallas on Schiit’s site.
You too? :) I keep thinking that I have a MJ3 and I don't need a Valhalla 2, but... $299? C'mon. Need!

There aren't many EVs which appeal to me.
The forthcoming MG 'Cyberster' looks pretty good though:

There is also a company in the UK called Lunaz which 'upcycles' classic cars, such as Aston Martins, Bentleys and Jags with electric motors after restoring the body and chassis.
Expensive though!

Putting electric motors in classic cars certainly polarises opinion here in the UK
Some love the idea; some think it's sacrilege.

I'm in the latter camp
If I was in the UK looking for an EV, I'd have to consider Citroen C4...

The biggest problem I see today aside from your typical white, grey, black, blue color options…

Nobody makes anything with style these days.

I strongly believe that manufacturers are aiming for the most aerodynamic shape to keep MPG high. That means all vehicles are gradually approaching the same shape.

The most lovely part of any BMW is its engine. Second is the chassis. Styling varies as we have stated but those motors are simply amazing. They have taken the straight-6 IC motor design so far that Mercedes had to revive their straight-6 program (with the M256) to compete...

The straight-6 is an inherently beautiful design, packaging issues notwithstanding.
My Gremlin had a 258 straight 6

Or, and maybe I’m being too cynical about this, they have no imagination and everyone is just copying each other.

I think it is all pretty much S/PDIF except for USB and I2S.
Yeah that's what I've gleaned, Ripper. The Sony/Phillips Digital InterFace is a datalink layer protocol, and it is supported by multiple physical layer specs - optical, 75 ohm coaxial or the AES/EBU. They have the same main designation of IEC 60958; the -4 suffix is for AES/EBU (professional) and -3 for S/PDIF (consumer).

There are some differences in the AES3 and S/PDIF protocols that don't allow just a simple voltage conversion, though. They have different meanings for their channel status frame bit, and that will trip you (and your protocol converter) up... it's the same audio data, of course, but the subcode formats are different.

Interesting physical layer stuff:

AES/EBU XLR3 connections output 2.7V peak to peak (7V p-to-p max) over 110 ohm balanced lines; max distance (a.k.a. cable length) 100 meters
AES/EBU CAT5 connections output 2.7V p-to-p (also 7V p-to-p max) over 110 ohm balanced cables; max distance 400 meters
AES/EBU BNC connections output 1V p-to-p (1.2 V p-to-p max) over 75 ohm unbalanced coax, max distance 1,000 meters (!)
S/PDIF RCA connections output 0.5V p-to-p over 75 ohm unbalanced coax, max distance 10 meters

That's all that I got for ya right now. This is interesting, but procrastination is going on here at this moment; I should be working on (real) work stuff... so I gotta get back to it <g>

First rides in two Teslas (a model S and a Model 3) this past week. Both of them were extremely noisy (road noise) in the cabin. Is this normal?
Yes, from my experience. The tires on these heavy monsters are very, very noisy. Also, there's no IC motor noise, so road noise is more pronounced, IMHO.

YMMV, of course. My friend's Model Y ripped through a set of front tires in less than 10K miles. Good for Michelin, bad for the owner...

Copy all. I’m buying a Vali 3 and want to acquire a 396. Where are reliable places to purchase same. I don’t trust myself to just to the mighty Google on this one.
Save a TON of money...

Get a 2C51 Bendix from:
$25 + $8 Shipping.
I have several 396a's and this Bendix made came this week and honestly you cant tell the
difference unless you have "bat" ears...
