It makes them feel warm (pun intended) and fuzzy.

So right out of box they sound OK. I mean just okayyy. after 54.5 hours they start to open up a little bit. I mean a tad bit. At 125.7 hours of usage time they reach their full potential with the HDVD800 am which needs precisely 139.6 hours run-in time. yeah it's a time consuming hobby! sorry for your social life!:p

Well, this thread is going well.

I hate to add to the BS and noise, but is there any chance of someone posting some 800 S impressions anytime soon?

Already in need of a mod doing some tidy up (including this post BTW).
Surely there are other threads if people just want to talk trash?

It seems, that Sennheiser production line was/is little 'too small'(?) to fulfill the needs of customers, so 'first set' of 800S was sold out quickly and not so many Head-fiers have HD800s at this moment... but something is said already on the first page of this thread and here , plus episodically in other threads (if to search carefully).

While we are all waiting with baited breath for more impressions. Here is another interview with a Senn rep, Tom...

Paraphrasing what's in the video he says:

  1. Evolutionary improvement over HD800
  2. Added acoustic absorber.
  3. Smooth frequency response
  4. Makes the sound fuller, more balanced, more forgiving
  5. More musical
