Shuoer impressions thread

As far as i am concerned, there is no other IEM that can compete with the Tapes as far as detail and speed goes, in this price range.

The only others that come to mind is the Sonion EST hybrids, but i think the cheapest are 700$. From the OEM rebrand that 'must not be named' .
Its 782$ for the original Shuoer EJ07 and 550$ for rebranded Y***** ST7 version.
I would have tried the EJ07 if i knew that guarantee and return wasn't an issue, but It looks like you're on your own after buying those and I can't afford to risk it...
With built-in miniature electo transformer, there is much more stuff that could break, compared to "regular" drivers...

BTW.
Sonion's electrostat tweeters that Shuoer uses were around since mid 2018, but strangely I didn't hear much about any other electrostatic IEMs besides Shuoer's stuff.

Apparently ca. 152$ for a pair:

Hopefully in 2020 we will see more reasonably priced IEMs with electostat tech.

Looking forward to the iems in 2020. Hope more brands jump on the electrostat tech, improving them even more in SQ, BQ and Price.

Found my perfect pairing for Tape. The mojo removes that shouty 3-4 khz peak. No need to apply eq to get rid of it. Are there any other iems that uses the same kind of drivers?

None that I know of. I might be wrong, but I believe Shuoer did the pioneering, building it into an IEM.
Hopefully more will follow in 2020.

Thanks for that - very interesting - so the electrostat starts from 7khz upwards from that spec sheet. Would explain the rationale for going for balanced armatures to cover the midrange in the ej07/clone.

Is that Hidizs AP80 you're using as transport? How do you find it SQ wise and user experience wise?

It's a Shanling M0. I can't hear any differences between using different devices as transport when serving up bit-perfect streams.

I thought I might pop back on the thread since I've now had the Tape's for ~30 days, using them almost exclusively alongside FLC 8n. The 8n's I am using almost completely stock, though adjusted tuning to high mids, high treble (meaning high sub bass, medium mid bass, high, high). The 8ns are almost 3 times the price of the tapes, so I'm not here to start a comparison, but it is my current reference. The tapes have a KB balanced cable https://www.amazon.com/Silver-Earph...keywords=kinboofi&qid=1575072546&sr=8-14&th=1, with symbio orange peel tips or whatever the hell they're called - the foam/silicon hybrids. Anyways...
The tapes hold their own in terms of details (especially for a single driver design), absolutely awesome. On older Rolling Stones recordings you can hear music being played in other rooms in the studio (or perhaps it's remnants from reusing analog tape reels) and it's almost spooky. They have such a nice bass slam without being over bearing. Slam is there, notes have texture, and there is a definitive difference between the two. Bass kick drum hits, bass guitar thumps, if you know what I mean. The mids are lush, though may have a *slightly* unnatural characteristic compared to the (3x the price) FLC 8n. It's one of those characteristics that when I A/B test the two I can notice, but after a song with the Tapes I don't any more. They have almost the same timbre in the mids as say Hifiman 4xx from massdrop (some full size planar cans). In fact, they feel a lot like a planar headphone. The sound stage is natural, slightly wider, and instrument placement is fantastic. Listening to Kind Of Blue you hear each instrument in a distinct place and it doesn't seem far off from placement on a real stage. Classical music is accurately represented as a top-down view which is really nice. I think a lot of people who listen to classical and complain about a headphone's sound stage forget that most of the time microphones are overhead, so placement of instrument groups should have a vertical feel in front of you, not wide. It should be like you are looking at a map or seating chart held up in front of you...
So there's some impressions 30 days in. Up until the Tapes, the Ibasso it01 was my go to recommendation for a natural sounding, all around $100 IEM. These are much better. In fact, if I had a friend just getting into the hobby I would tell them for ~$250 to get the Tapes, an Earstudio ES100000000 and a set of foam tips (yeah I guess I would recommend the Symbio's...I'm not 100%sold on the hybrid stuff but they have been nice so far - wish the foam was a little more soft)

In March will be available IMR Halcyon triple drivers:
2 electrostatic drivers and a 15mm Aten driver.

Which song/album in particular

yeah I guess I would recommend the Symbio's

After numerous tip rolling, i still think the KZ Starlines and Spiraldots (i like the older one a tad better than ++) are the best combo with the Tape. Symbios sounded a little weird for me with the Tape

Yeah so my thoughts on the symbios' in general are that when first put in (especially because I'm in cold new hampshire) they feel a little stiff and I think it negatively impacts sq. After like 10 minutes though they warm up, become softer and morecomfortable, and sound better (or ingest accustomed to the sound) and I actually prefer it.
LSS if it's a short walk somewhere, they aren't worth it, but if it's a longer listening session I like them.

So miles Davis- kind of blue, the whole album sounds great. As for the classical, try the 3rd movement of Beethoven's 9th, karajan. Between those two you can really hear the excellent placement and separation of everything...
Should note I mostly go for Tidal hifi, smsl su8 and the loxjie p20 amp, balanced out.
