Been out of the loop on headphones for a few years, and need a cheap-ish pair to use at work. Looks like there has been an explosion of new over-ear IEMs, but I want something with a wire that hangs straight down (like the 1more triple drivers). Are there any new non over-ear IEMs that are recommended for under $150?

The classic Etymotic bullet shape can be used wire down, though they are less microphonic if you loop them over your ear.

Ety ER3XR has a bass boost (my preference), ER3SE is more rigorously neutral. Either one is $69 if you are in the US.

ER2SE, dynamic driver rather than the 3XR/SE balanced armature, is $49.

They have a deep fit that some people can't stand; I'm very comfortable with the gray foam tips. Incredible isolation for work use.

30-day return policy for the $11 cost of shipping.

And 1More are still pretty good (though less analytical than the Etys); you could always get a new pair of those!

There's a lot of Ety lore on Head-Fi if you search; they were IEM pioneers.

The Arias look to be over ear. Can they be worn straight down?

No they can't be worn straight down.

For cable down sets, u can read about the Final Audio E500/1000/2000/3000/4000/5000, all are cable down, but the latter 2 may be beyond your budget.

The etymotics series are another cable down set, but they are rather uncomfortable for me due to the deep insertion (better try it out first). KBEAR Neon is a cheaper version of the etymotic series that can be worn cable down too.

Some sets like the BLON BL-03, Smabat Proto 1.0, Urbanfun YBF-ISS 014 are meant to be worn over ears, but one can switch the earpieces and maintain the same cable sides, and use them as cable down IEMs.
