Adding a splash of colours to a boring Monday.

Got into the TZ700 club a bit late. Thanks to @Scuba Devils for answering my relentless barrage of questions before purchasing it. Head-fi classifieds helped me big time.

Initially, I was not exactly blown away by it, but man, did it grow on me! That massive subbass, that immaculate mid and treble details, that deep stage - just beautiful. Also found out it needs a bit more power compared to the other IEMs I have to sound proper. Although the Hiby R3 II here drives it just fine, on high gain.

This has a very unique sound signature, and I frankly find it very enjoyable to keep it in my rotation permanently.

Hiby R3 II > Headgear Audio Athena II Silver > Technics EAH-TZ700 > JVC Spiral Dots++
all-day comfort, all-day sound. plug them into the Gryphon, have fun with the x-bass.

Grabbed a pair of good condition 2nd hand tZ700 after toy shopping (again) today! mostly for the wish to complete my collection of the premium contemporary japanese universal iems from major manufacturers (e.g. victor fw10000, sony z1r, final a8000 and technics tz700).

sounds really terrific with very good bass! sound isolation is only mediocre similar to ex800st i got a bit earlier. requires quite a bit of voltage to achieve my usual listening level (relatively quiet). I'm using odyssey (very efficient) before i switched to this new toy. i've to dial up the vol quite a bit to get adequate volume. but once i get to that vol, the bass is no less impactful than the odyssey (again known to be some of the more bass heavy iems from both bone conduction & DD drivers).

though the brand name printed on the front side will be on the wrong orientation, but i plan to wear it upside down with the cable routing round my ears just like most iems with earloop for better security and less dangling from the cable (very pliable and light weight but i still prefer to have the cable hanging on something to eliminate pulling the iems from the desired wearing position).

such beautifully crafted and great sounding iems are relatively unknown and seems not widely available outside of the japanese market. a loss for non-japanese iems lovers.

I've got 3/4 and a fw10000 just popped up in the classifieds...I'm fighting that exact temptation.
In Tz700 news I've been really enjoying them with the dunu S&S tips, unreal comfort sticking further out of my ears and improved spaciousness

Yes I consider TZ700 an essential classic DD along with FW1000, IE900, Turii Ti and Perpetua to name a few gems from around the world.

I also got fw10000, ie900 and perpetua. They all have their pros and cons but my preference is fw10000 > ie900 > tz700 = perpetua. :relaxed:

Oh, really! The perpetua is the most expensive one, though. lol
I've had fw10000 before, it was an amazing DD that almost made me cry but sold it due to fit issues. Considering buying it again. I've missed it so much!
And I'd like to try the Perpetua sometime. I think I'll like it.
I now have a tz700. It's a wonderful gem. I like the fit and the looks, very low-key, doesn't look like a luxury earphone that drew too much attention, and of course, the sound is amazing for its size and price(I got the used one for $640). :)

I almost sold my FW10000 but very glad I didn’t - now using AEX07 tips in XL which provide an excellent fit. Not sure how I’d rank my favourite DDs, probably Turii Ti still at the top though.

my probably heavily biased view is that most of the small boutique brands' totl offerings are not necessarily "better" than the big brand name premium products in terms of sound quality. small boutique brands have far less R&D budget/know-how, manufacturing technique and capacity, economy of scales, etc. than the big brand. my feeling is they create unique and exclusive products that suit very specific needs and a rather niche market. i kept seeing so called "limited edition" product of just 100 or less never sold out and in my 5yrs journey of buying fitear iems, the serial # has not exceed 9000 (i.e. avg annual production < 2k for ALL of fitear iems ).

for sound quality alone, kse1200 is the best iems i've heard, which is very lowly priced at today's insane portable audio market. i'm not convinced that boutique brands stand a good chance to build a better sounding product at the same price of big brand (given the huge deficiency in r&d, manufacturing, technical capacities and also for economy of scale). i think these smaller entreprises are having a hard time under the current situation and forced to push new products (often very slightly revised versions only) to the market to try to attain a sustainable sales volume (that even the big names are struggling to achieve nowadays).

back to perpetua, it got great review from many. i can testify that the package, the build quality and the aesthetic design are all the very best in this trade (like most Dita products). but for the sound quality side, while it's good, i don't think it stands out comparing with the brand brand names' offerings for my personal preference.
