The HD-580 is still my main headphone and I listen to it everyday, needs some new earpads but they are out of stock at headroom at the moment, and I am thinking of getting some HD650 cables for it, but it is still going strong after over 10 years.

I would suggest the Beyerdynamic DT880 250ohm or 600ohm for $200-$230 in the buy/sell forum here, or the AudioTechnica A900X for $140.  The AudioTechnica M50 for $105 would be a good choice for closed headphones.
