Tung Sol 5998, Brimar CV455 KB/FB (Footscray plant: 1956). The adapters are 12A*7 —> E88CC from Pulse Tube Store. (I painted the adapter bodies silver with Testors model paint. They were white.)

Giving the Brimar CV455 KB/FBs and Mullard 6201s a break. The Western Electric 396A / 2C51 s are fantastic (adapters are 5670 => 6922 from Tube Depot.)

I've had good luck with RCA and Psvane. Both are good for different reasons. RCA has more "tubiness" and emotion, whereas Psvane has more refinement and clarity.

They are 6N23Ps but I'm not sure of the brand. I got them from soviet-tubes.com and they were shipped from Russia.

I have a similar setup with a "Winged C" 6H13C and "Silver Shield" 6N23P-EBs.

The 6N23Ps might be my favorite rectifier tubes for this amp, of the ones I've heard.

Here they are with a Tung-Sol 7236 I picked up on Ebay un-tested. It arrived in the mail today. So far so good!

This tube has very different construction from the Sylvania 7236.

Searching this thread for "5998A" doesn't turn up any results and isn't listed as a compatible tube in the manual.
I couldn't find much technical difference from the 5998 so I'm trying one now. It seems similar to a 7236 or 5998 in terms of power or loudness but I'd have to listen a lot longer to compare how they sound.
I see that the maximum grid circuit resistance is .25 megohms on the 5998A vs 500,000 ohms on the 5998
Am I going to damage the amplifier or the tube?
