My Auteurs arrived today! This my first pair of ZMF and now I understand what all the hype is about. They're really a work of art and I hope to have them for a lifetime.

When I first ordered the Auteur, I expected them to compliment my HE1000 Stealth for when I wanted more chill, easy listening. But I'm actually shocked at how good the Auteurs are, and I'm not sure how often I'm going to be reaching for the HE1000s.
The Auteurs have a "sweetness" (is that the right word?) to vocals and the sound in general that makes the HE1000s feel thin and cold in comparison. Makes you want to just keep listening and listening..

Haha that’s actually really validating for me! I find the Auteurs are all I need for 90% of the music I listen to. The other 10% is orchestral music, stuff that just sounds better with a thinner, leaner sound like the one that my modded 8XX gives. I’ve heard the 1000SE and agree completely that it fits into that category and use case.

What’s funny is I use my Auteurs for almost exclusively orchestral music, and my Atrium Closed for everything else. That said, Auteur was my only pair of headphones for a long time and was excellent with all types of music.
I received my Mango Auteur Classic this past weekend as well. I can see what people are saying about Auteur Classic when it comes to female vocals. I’ve been enjoying 90s R&B with it so far. The Auteur Classic pairs so well with my iBasso D16/PB5 stack.

I'm really enjoying the Asgard 3 with the Auteurs, seems like a great combo. The Asgard sounds a bit more warm and vocals sound more rich and smooth compared to the Midgard. Both sound great, but I think the Asgard is having a bit of a tube-like feel.

Oh man this is my exact use case! Been going back and forth on the beautiful mango Auteur Classic as a complement to my HE1000 Stealth. Glad to hear this comparison.

I definitely think you will be happy, and I feel it's worth owning both. The HE1000s do have more detail and sound larger, especially vertically. The HE1000s also get deeper into the bass on certain songs and have more of that typical fast planar bass compared to the Auteurs.
I guess it's a matter of what you personally value, but for me the Auteurs are what I'd reach for most of the time. They're still plenty detailed and just have an overall sound signature I find more enjoyable and make the HE1000s feel thin, especially with certain vocals. I don't think pure maximum detail and technical performance is as important as having that "sweetness" to the sound signature that the Auteur provides. Although some people will pay top dollar to have the absolute most detail and technical ability, just a matter of what you value.
Also, the mango looks amazing in person, the pics really don't do them justice. Keep us posted if you decide to take the plunge, would be curious to hear your comparison as well .

And I’ve been going back and forth whether or not to try the HE1000 Stealth as a complement to my Auteurs (instead of the 8XX) I love the 8XX’s for that expansive stage, but sometimes I do with for a more engaging sound and deeper bass.
