Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

I think Thor means don't use SMD version of OS-CON. Use the regular one with leads. SMD is harder to soldering at home.

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

USB-C PD is good enough? Is it for Zen Can Signature only (as it has internal switiching power supply)? For Zen DAC, I bet LPS is still preferred over USB-C PD. Correct?

iFi Audio Zen Dac 3... Plug In, World Out!

Cool, thanks for your review. Just wondering did you always power your Zen DAC with USB? If yes, I'd suggest you can try the dedicated 5V regulated LPS for your Zen DAC. I bet you would love the sound more with the 5V power supply.

need help in some explanation with dac-s build and statements

There are a lot of mis-leading information about Hi-Res or Upsampling music. One of the benefits of Hi-Res or Upsampled music (e.g. 384k/32bit, or even 768/32) is to better reconstruct audio signal (yes frequency under 22kHz). Sampling theory said 44kHz sampling is good enough to reproduce...

Sorry for my ignorance, what is dual chamber EI core transformers and "Y" capacitor? p.s.: The timing of my replies may be a bit odd as I am put under speech control.

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

IMO, I see it this way (I coud be wrong though): 1: Most of modern devices have on-board circuity to reduce noise from a power supply but it is not perfect. (Let's say it reduce noise by x%) 2: Supercapacitor bank can condition the power to eliminate most of the noise but again not perfect. I...

    Is VST band-limited?

Does it mean that the following article is talking BS? Can you spot the difference? Classic waveforms versus modern digital emulation | MusicRadar i.e. In the article they shows different waves forms (sawtooth and square) created by Audacity. As the replies here said a computer (or h/w digital...

    Is VST band-limited?

Some one told me that VST is band-limited. Is it true? i.e. if I have an VST plug-in that generates a perfect square wave, VST would somehow band limit the output to half of the sampling rate so that the ouput would not be a perfect square wave anymore. Is it true?

Super (capacitor) charging your iFi Zen Can (and other zen products and possibly other manufacturers)

All the OS-CONs are for power supplies, using 560uF (instead of 460uF) is ok. I would try 1000uF if I knew earlier it could be larger. Thor mentioned (as shown below) that we can try larger values (uF) for C411. It should be similar for C101, C201, C321, and C410 For C507,C508, I think we...

    Can you hear upscaling?

Have a look of the following quotes. It is interesting, sometimes 1.000 are considered same as 1.001. Sometimes, 1.000000000000000 is considered different from 1.000000000000001 :face_palm: :cherries:

    Can you hear upscaling?

Hmm.. having a second thought isn't that the Monty's version of "sampling theory" claim "[band-limited] analog signal can be reconstructed losslessly, smoothly, and with the exact timing of the original analog signal"? Now, you are saying there are more limitations as band-limited "square...

    Can you hear upscaling?

If I understand your statement correctly, it means digital audio and home audio systems are not designed for electronic musics (which use a lot of signal generators, aka synthesizer)? In other words, based on your statement, electronic music live in the analog domain but not in digital...

    Can you hear upscaling?

Is electronic music not allowed in commercially recorded music? I just showed a drum machine made by Korg that can produce sqaure wave. Here is the photo again: You made a very good point about camera, I'm just complaining a camera doesn't have a good sensor. Full-frame 135-format digital...

    Can you hear upscaling?

Excellent, thanks a lot again for your reply. Could you tell me which software you used to generate the 100Hz sqare wave and how you band-limit it to 20kHz? And which software you used to down sample the 352.8 kHz to 44.1 kHz? I'm really happy to see your reply as it prompts me to think of an...

    Can you hear upscaling?

Cool, someone finally agreed that it is a band-limited "square wave". Yeah. I want to highlight that testing with a simple sine wave input could miss a lot of details as our music is not a pure sine wave. We need input with multiple frequencies as some artifacts can only be seen easily with...

Not all upsamplers are created equally. Do you consider the 100Hz "square wave" I posted is band-limited?

    Can you hear upscaling?

Cool, thanks for the graph. I love to see this high quality reply. Thanks again. For your impulse (i.e. input), looks to me it is a single frequency with decreasing amplitude. Is it possible to use a band-limited 100 Hz "square wave" that shown earlier in my reply as input?

It is interesting to see that the term "Monty Montgomery" became a pronouns for a group of people who don't understand the concept of Rob Watt's upsampler. (source: The-theory-behind-M-Scaler-technology.pdf (chordelectronics.co.uk))

No, I didn't post the mathematical representation of square wave before. Why you said it's nonsense? Which part of the post is nonsense? All? Could we have a constructive discussion regarding the "square wave" I posted? i.e. Is this band limited 100Hz "square wave" nonsense to you? If you...

Yes, its Elna Silmic II 470uF/16V and 6SEPC470MX. For the Silmic, you can use 6.3V but I cannot find it so I bought the 16V I used Elna Silmic because the offical signature use it. My original plan was to upgrade my V2 to Signature but now I am planning to make it to Signature Plus as Thor...
