I just want to update regarding Oladra vs MPSX as a player. I am always using the Oladra server section regardless of configurations below.

When using Oladras player with squeeze, resolution is a small step higher than when using MPSX as player while retaining natural timbre, but with that said when using Oladra players squeeze direct into the DAC, then the MPSX player fairs better overall in my opinion.

^When using MPD8 DAC

With that said I end up with Oladra going into MPSX via AES (aka not using the player section of the MPSX) and having the MPSX connect to DAC via PLINK and this gave me the final conclusion of...

The MPSX is an amazing device regardless of using its player section or not, but with that said to be efficient with resources if I had to do it again I would either just go Oladra and skip the MPSX if it was not a Playback Designs DAC.

If it was the Playback Designs DAC I would still use MPSX as player and get an Antipodes stand alone server instead of a server/streamer in single box.

Just wanted to share. Good luck.

You mean when using Oladra as server into MPSX (player) vs Olarda as server / player, both into DAC?

Oladra as server into MPSX and MPSX as player? (Other wise not sure what MPSX is doing in this case)

"You mean when using Oladra as server into MPSX (player) vs Olarda as server / player, both into DAC?"

Sorry for wording, summary of rankings in my opinion (key word my opinion) they are all fantastic regardless.

The below tiers are assuming if one has a dac that takes PLINK, my experience is only based on the MPD8. I am in no way shape or form implying or saying that DACs not having PLINK are inferior. I just so happen to have a DAC that takes it so I wanted to experiment and share findings when mixing the MPSX in and out.

1.Oladra Server/Oladra player into mpsx (not using mpsx player section) into DAC that takes PLINK

2. Oladra Server + MPSX Player into DAC that takes PLINK

3. Oladra Server/Oladra Player into DAC taking or not taking PLINK

"Oladra as server into MPSX and MPSX as player? (Other wise not sure what MPSX is doing in this case)"

Even when not using the player section of the MPSX, it still is being used to remove jitter, something the MPD8 already does, but adds an extra layer of that prior to MPD8.

I tried using Oladra server/player via AES into the MPD8 and it sounds great but I prefer it going through the MPSX even when not using its player section.

Ah, gotcha. Gather PLINK is PBD proprietary kind of like I2S?

I believe so. I was introduced to PLINK via playback designs.

Andreas replied to an email of mine when I had some questions and he did mention that when going through MPSX via server it is best to use USB between server and MPSX so that the MPD8 DAC's internal master clock is used rather than the servers. I am currently using AES from Oladra to MPSX and with that connection, I am using the master clock from the Oladra.

He personally feels that using the master clock inside the MPD8 is most ideal, should be fun to experiment. Interestingly enough for some reason this was never mentioned to my knowledge in either the MPD8 manual or the MPSX manual so I figured I would share.

My server suddenly does not show up in "myantipodes"

Any general advice before contacting support? Much appreciated.

Server is within 3 months old, 1st time it happened.

Power down, power switch off, disconnect cables, ethernet back in, power on, boot. I had it with mine after the update and that got it back up and running, just needed time to boot properly. Worth a shot...

I have not had issues with My Antipodes as of late, but I have had been experiencing some recent temporary issues with my email going offline and some intermittent internet drops; I have made the assumption that recent solar activity may be affecting these areas. Rebooting your system may be of assistance.

I did reset the device. I tried the myantipodes app for the first time and it works, but for some reason the myantipodes.com website no longer shows the server/player.

Thanks for the advice. I did remove ethernet cables and rebooted but no luck. The myantipodes website stopped working but the myantipodes app (using for first time) shows the server/streamer. I wonder why.

I’ve had my K22 for exactly 4 weeks. The sound is absolutely amazing compared to any other streamer/player I’ve ever had.

Now for the rabbit hole, or is it a rabbit hole. How much difference is adding the K41, and in what ways?

I’m not saying it’s applicable In this case, I often find that a component that’s in the middle of the line up ends up being the sweet spot. In other words, as you go up the chain, musicality gets replaced by much more detail and transparency. Of course it depends on what the persons desired goals are, and maybe that is what they are looking for.

Many times when I hear a component that has a lot of detail is very transparent, it comes off as thin and less body to the notes.

TIA

I personally feel you should stick with your belief regarding demo first and then decide. If you buy through antipodes direct I think they allow a 30 day trial.

Yes it is always the mid line component being the sweet spot but at end of day sometimes an extra 10 to 20 percent increase can be the difference from being wowed and being satisfied.

Trade offs are very real. Get something that is sweet spot and feel good about the money spent or drop big bucks knowing the returns are marginal for smaller gains.

We choose and live and die. :)

Regarding my server not working in above post, it works now. Just needed to use the actual myantipodes app.

The usual route would be to move on K22 and get K50 as it'll cover both units in a single package. There small benefit to having k22/k41 providing the connection between them is good (more money) than K50.

Also depends on the size of your library, smaller library can get away with K22, larger may need the server, particularly if you want to use HQ Player.

I've got a <2tb library and K22 was what I was going to get after many hours of research and speaking to Mark. A G3 K50 came up for a good deal at the right time and made sense to get it and cover upgrade to G4 rather than get a new K22. K50 just arrived back from NZ today, a rather quick 2 week turn around for anyone considering it!
