How's the Holo May with Niimbus? That seems to be the DAC to get from what I've seen.
Yes! That sounds impressive. I've listened to other DACs as well. I decided to stick with Holo May for now (already 2 years in my system).
12 o'clock
Below is a quote from the manual. I noted in bold what is the advantage of this setting. But, the manual does not say that this way the best sound quality is achieved.
"Your amp is adjusted best by the individual PRE-GAIN setting when the volume control for “normal” listening is positioned around 12 o´clock. So it is provided that there is enough attenuator travel to boost the signal through lower level passages or to listen with higher volume."

It is important to always remember that the volume control is a resistance to the signal supplied to the amplifier. The less the volume slider is engaged, the more accurate/clearer the sound you can hear. This does not depend on the type of volume control used.

I agree that not everyone will like this setting. Everyone should listen to music the way they like.:)

The May + Bliss setting will sound better.

Most likely we will not hear a striking difference between Bliss and Niimbus. The choice of one or another amplifier will come down to the individual preferences of the listener and the composition of the headphones available. But the difference between May and Chord Qutest will be much more significant. I know that some HeadFi members have switched from Chord Dave to May and found May more melodious. Qutest is clearly not at their level, no matter how good it sounds.

Chord Qutest has only RCA outputs and the maximum voltage on them is 3 Volts.
All the DACs I've listened to with the Violectric 550 and Niimbus have always played better through the XLR. The more voltage they could apply to the amplifier, the more power reserve the amplifier had, the sound was more emotional.

May gives out 2.4 volts on RCA, 5.8 volts on XLR.
If your bank account and wife allow you, then it is better to choose May.

I haven't heard Expanse yet, but I've managed to listen to Stealth from Burson Soloist GT, Ferrum ORR+Gypsos, Violectric 550, Niimbus.

In combination with Stealth, I would put these boosters in the following order:
№1 Niimbus. It has a neutral setting, excellent stage, speed, bass punch, phenomenal resolution and a magical scattering of diamonds at high frequencies.
№2 Violectric 550. Everything is exactly the same as Niimbus, only the tuning is a little warmer and Niimbus has slightly better control of the headphone membrane (this is only audible at low frequencies and on single tracks). In all other respects they have parity (by ear).
№3 Burson Soloist GT. It has a lower speed (it's audible on fast bass compositions) and rounding of high frequencies (you won't hear a magical scattering of diamonds at high frequencies), less black background.
№4 Ferrum ORR + Gypsos. Smaller scene and resolution. The drop in resolution is strongly audible in the low-frequency range, it plays somehow simplified. This is the warmest of all four amplifiers. Gives an additional emphasis on the bass and rounds out the high frequencies (as you already understood, the sound without diamonds).

I gave an example of how Stealth sounds on these amplifiers. Given that Expanse has a similar magnetic system and membrane, it will react similarly to amplifiers.

If I had a choice now, would I buy May+ Bliss or May+Niimbus? My choice would be May+Bliss (even though I'm a Vio/Niimbus fan). Selling Bliss on the secondary market will be much easier, faster, with minimal loss of value if you don’t like its sound. This is due to the fact that the hype for Bliss continues to gain momentum. Everyone who bought it did not abandon it in favor of another amplifier.

Vio/Niimbus has never had the hype and is more expensive than the competition. Therefore, the discount when selling on the secondary market will always be greater. But those who have tried this equipment and understand its advantages are ready to pay the appointed amount.

Moreover, dealers in my area have sold a lot of Vio550/Vio590/Niimbus in the last 3-4 years. And I don't see them on the secondary market (in my region). That is, those who bought them see no reason to change them for something else. I also have no idea that I could change my Vio590 (I use it as an amplifier in my installation). My Vio590 (as an amplifier) outplayed all the amplifiers that I managed to own and hear (except Niimbus).
Hello.

have you compared Burson 3x GT vs V550 but using hifiman susvara?

or somebody has make this comparison?

I am interestend in just these things:
1.- Which has wider soundstage size?
2.- Which has more impact and control and nauces in bass region?
3.- Which has more rounded treble?
4.- Which give you a better sensation of layering (less space between layers)?
5.- More body/weight in notes.
6.- Overall which do you think is a better option to drive susvara?

I hope somebody could answer me this please

thank you so much.

In Australia it is funny that Holo Bliss is more expensive than Violetric V550 and near the price of Nimbus pro version lol. Look like the dealer of Holo in Australia they increase the price a lot compare to other region dealers. So if the Niimbus is just better than the V550 a little bit then the V550 is really a bargain for someone who is interested in Vio/Niimbus/Lake people amps. By the way, the Niimbus is about double the price of V550 in Australia. Madness, right?

But now my main headphone is Sennheiser HD800 so in the future I might upgrade to a ultra high end 300B tube amp to drive this headphone.

The MSRP in Europe for the V550 (non-pro) is 2600 EUR and the US5 (also non-pro) is 5300 EUR, that is also more than double, so the LP pricing seems consistent. Pro versions cost 3200 EUR for the V550 Pro and 5900 EUR for the US5 Pro, so that is a little under double then.

The Bliss costs 3400 EUR and the Bliss KTE is 3900 EUR.

I haven't heard the Bliss or V550 so hard to comment on fairness of the prices, but based on my experience with the May and multiple Lake People products, I'd be confident you'll get good value for your money with all three amps - at least for the euro prices.
