What are "Head-Fi Classifieds"?

Head-Fi Classifieds is an area of the forums where Head-Fi’ers can buy, sell, and trade all kinds of Head-Fi related gear, such as headphones; amplifiers; DACs; digital audio players; cables; and just about anything else audio-related.


Are there any requirements to post a classified?

Anyone wishing to post a classified must be a member of Head-Fi for more than thirty (30) days, have over fifteen (15) posts, and have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled on their profile. Any Head-Fi'er who has not yet met all of these requirements will not be able to create a new classified.

Please note: Head-Fi Classifieds are reserved for Head-Fi'ers actively taking part in discussion threads. Rapidly posting to meet the 15 count or posting nonsense/low effort posts to reach the post threshold is not allowed, and will be treated as forum spam. If it is found that a Head-Fi’er reached the requirement by making such posts, those posts may be removed and access to Head-Fi Classifieds may be revoked indefinitely.


How do I inquire about a classified?

To contact a classified’s creator, click the “Contact listing creator” button either above or below the listing to begin a private message.


How do I post a new classified?

To create a new classified, click “Add Listing” at the top of the page.

How do I make changes to my classified?

Creators can make any edits or adjustments to their classified by clicking the ellipses [...] button located in the upper right corner of the listing and selecting “Edit listing.”

How do I close a listing?

Creators can close a classified classified by clicking the ellipses [...] button located in the upper right corner of the listing and selecting “Close listing.” When closing a listing, please select a closing reason and enter the username of the other Head-Fi’er taking part in the exchange.

Example: If a headphone was sold to another Head-Fi'er, please select “Sold” from the list.

Aging classifieds will be closed automatically after 120 days with no activity.
Please note: Listings that have been closed due to inactivity will close again if they are not bumped after unclosing.


Are there any limits to the number of classifieds I can have open?

Head-Fi members can have a maximum of 10 active listings at any time. When there are 10 active listings for a profile, the "Add listing" button will disappear until one or more listings have been sold, traded, or closed.


How do I get a classified to the top of the listings?

Raising an existing classified to the top of the list is known as a bump, and creators can bump their listings once every 72 hours. Creators can bump their classified by clicking the ellipses [...] button located in the upper right corner of the listing and selecting “Bump listing.”

How do I leave feedback for a completed transaction?

Once a listing has been closed, both parties will be able to select “Add feedback” from the ellipses [...] button located in the upper right corner of the listing. Only Head-Fi’ers taking part in the exchange will be able to leave feedback.

Special note: Any classifieds created before March 3, 2021 were posted on our previous Gear For Sale and Trade system. All feedback left on Gear For Sale and Trade (GFST) was imported into Head-Fi Classifieds on April 6, 2021, and the ability to leave new GFST feedback was removed at that time.

To leave feedback for a GFST listing after April 6, we recommend that one of the Head-Fi'ers involved in the exchange create a new listing in Head-Fi Classifieds and immediately close it so both parties can leave feedback for the other. Feedback left anywhere else on the site, such as Public Messages or as comments in a classified, will not count towards the feedback score found in the Classified Feedback tab of a Head-Fi'er's profile.


Can I leave feedback for a listing after it's closed?

Head-Fi’ers can leave feedback any time after they have completed a purchase, sale, or trade. There is no deadline on when feedback must be submitted.


Can I modify the feedback I’ve left for another Head-Fi’er?

Feedback can be edited within 21 days via the Classifieds Feedback tab of a Head-Fi’er’s profile.


I’m looking for listings that meet a range of criteria. Can I see only listings for a specific price, region, etc?

Classifieds can be filtered a number of ways to show only those that meet specific requirements. Click the Filters dropdown found at the top of the page to set a price range, status, currency, and more.


I’m looking for a specific item. Can I search Classifieds for only that item?

Classifieds can be searched using the search function. Click “Search listings” in the navigation bar and enter the name of the item in the Keyword field. Search results can be further limited to certain dates, conditions, destinations, and more.


What is a “Sponsor Listing”?

Sponsor Listings are classifieds posted by Members of the Trade who help support the Head-Fi community through forum sponsorship.


Can I be notified when new classifieds are posted?

Clicking the “Watch” button found at the top of any category will add that category to the watch list. Head-Fi'ers can configure alert and email notification settings via the new window.


I can’t find my watched listings/categories in my Watched Threads.

Watched classifieds and listings have their own dedicated area accessible via the navigation bar.

Listings - Choose Classifieds > Watched > Watched listings to see all currently watched listings, or click here.
Categories - Choose Classifieds > Watched > Watched categories to see all currently watched categories, or click here.


I’m looking for something specific. Is it possible to save a search to quickly come back to it later?

To set up a saved query, start by selecting “Search Listings” from the navigation bar, visiting the Advanced Search page and selecting “Search classifieds listings”, or clicking here. Enter all search keywords separated by commas. (Example: If searching for noise cancelling headphones, keywords can be “ANC, noise cancelling”) Next, narrow the search to specific categories, conditions, etc using the available options. Then, click “Search” at the bottom of the page. Finally bookmark the results page. Visit the bookmarked page any time to see all current listings that meet the conditions.


What does "You do not have permission to add listings to this category" mean?

When creating a listing, you may notice the phrase "You do not have permission to add listings to this category." Head-Fi Classifieds does not allow listers to create listings in the primary "For Sale" categories and any listings will need to be created in the appropriate sub-category.

For example: new listings cannot be created in "Headphones For Sale / Trade" but they can be created in either the "Full-Size" or "In-Ear Monitors" sub-categories. Please select the appropriate sub-category when creating a new listing.


Who can leave comments on a listing?

The listing creator and those who meet Head-Fi's requirements for Head-Fi Classifieds can leave comments on a listing.

Please note: Head-Fi Classifieds comments are not for discussions. If you are interested in purchasing an item from a listing creator, are asking about pairing recommendations, or are interested in any other discussions, we ask that you please use Head-Fi's private messaging rather than commenting on a listing. If you would like to discuss an item's sonic qualities, we invite you to join or start a discussion on the forums.


Can I use PayPal Friends & Family to avoid paying taxes on my Head-Fi Classifieds listing?

While we understand getting hit with taxes on a sale can be disappointing, Head-Fi does not allow the use of unprotected payment methods for any reason. All listings on Head-Fi Classifieds are required to meet our payment guidelines regardless of local tax requirements. Any sellers listing items for sale via PayPal Friends & Family, Zelle, Revolut, etc may have their listings edited or deleted and may find their access to Head-Fi Classifieds revoked.

Creating a Classified


Start by clicking the “Add Listing” button located at the top of the list of classifieds.

If requested, select the appropriate category for the listing.

Fill out all required fields.

Add a brief description of the item you are looking to buy, sell, or trade.
Please note: While not required, Head-Fi recommends including at least one image in a classified to enhance the listing.

Publish the listing by pressing "Save."


Editing a Classified

Start by clicking the More Options button [...] in the upper right corner and select "Edit listing" from the menu.

Modify your listing's title, price, description, and more from in the new window.

Confirm your edits by pressing "Save."


Bumping a Classified

Start by clicking the More Options button [...] in the upper right corner and select "Bump listing" from the menu.

Closing a Classified

Start by clicking the More Options button [...] in the upper right corner and select "Close listing" from the menu.

Choose your reason for closing the classified from the list. If the listing was closed following a sale, purchase, or trade, enter the name of the other Head-Fi'er in the "Second party" field.

Confirm closing the listing by pressing "Save."
