High end estat amplifier, better than all Stax amplifiers.
It has been nicknamed baby BHSE (Blue Hawaï Special Edition)
Designed Kevin Gilmore (as most high end estat amplifiers), and build by headinclouds, a reputable builder.

Can drive everything, even the hungry Stax 007. Very good match with 009s in my opinion.

Price excludes shipping and Paypal fees.

The amplifier is stunning, and its builder has used only high end parts :

The case has been specially designed for the KGST and is again all-aluminium. The case
parts are laser cut from 3mm aluminium alloy sheet and then bead-blasted and anodised. The
front panel, sides and back are silver; the top and bottom are mid grey. The front panel is
machined from 10mm aluminium plate and anodised silver. As usual with my builds no bolts
show on the front panel. The lettering is printed on in a darker grey.

Resistors are Vishay and Xicon as appropriate in this build for feedback chain and output
resistors I used the special NOS Shinkoh tantalum film resistors.

The bias voltage is Stax pro-bias (580v) and the phones socket is the white ptfe socket from
Headamp.

The inputs are xlr balanced, they are connected directly to the volume control by hand
assembled screened cable using Toxic Cables’ ultra-pure stranded copper pp insulated, with a
braided copper screen and heatshrink insulation.

The volume control is by a high quality 41-step attenuator of 10K. (4-gang balanced). This is
much better than a potentiometer and has also precise channel matching and operates with a
soft click action. The attenuator is an Acoustic-Dimension 41 step.

The HV wiring is 600v ptfe insulated silver plated stranded copper. The output to the phones
is heavy gauge silver wire from Toxic Cables. Solder used is Wondersolder leaded.

This was my own KGST for a few years. it's good to see that it is still working exactly as it should.

Power wise how does it compare to the KGSSHV or Carbon?

Similar to the KGSShv typically 400 (or 450v) and 10mA output stage current. The Carbon has the same voltage but up to twice the current, as per Blue Hawaii and Grounded Grid.

This particular KGST has some upgrades I put in after a year, a cascade current source output stage which gives a cleaner, subjectively more powerful sound, some Shinkoh resistors and the silver output wiring. It is a very nice amplifier.

is it difficult to switch this to US voltage? I know it says switch inside but just curious

Nice, one last question. My 717 max output voltage is 450v. What is the max on this?

I don’t the max in this but the KGST is a much better sounding amp than the 717 and this build should sound even better.

Hello,

regarding the power, it has already been answered by Headinclouds :

I had the Stax 717 before this amp, and I agree with Purk : this KGST is in another league.

For the voltage change, here is a photo of the interior, with the switch :

I appreciate the reply. For some reason last week a bunch of comments and DMs I made were invisible. I signed out of Headfi, deleted cookies/cache and signed back in and I could see them again.

For a minute I thought the person who sold me an estat amp week before last had deleted their account and our whole conversation before the amp arrived..........lol
