Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Certainly SD is a high level guide for recorded pop music (and very well done), but something like "Aja" had 64 tracks (or more), mixing, mastering, musicians playing alone in the studio, they tried what - 6 or 7 drummers - before they settled on Gadd - there is no way to be sure what the exact...- bagwell359

Dead Susvara mystery
Lighting - resulting in transformers (in the power network outside of your home) trying to turn back on - sometimes 3 times in a row - won't turn off the equipment, and some corner cases (arcing) are not picked up by power conditioners because the voltage is in the "safe" band. The Rags have...- bagwell359

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
In my earlier years Bose 901/501/301's were my example of that - even more so that I worked at "the Mountain" in the Summer of '78 and saw for myself the rigorous -ahem- QC that the 901 II had, and put them up against ADS 710, 810; KLH-5, AR-3; Magnepan MG-1 and II, DQ-10's etc - heck even the...- bagwell359

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
I predict they will be a smash. The 600 is -5 db at 30 Hz and the 620 is +6 db at 30 Hz. When a poster says that they will finally have decent bass, it's an example of the desire of the market for "fun tuning". As I wrote in the defunct thread I'd like a less smoothed FR for these, and...- bagwell359

Hifiman HE1000 Stealth vs Arya Stealth
Yes, the stage size, mid and lower bass dynamics, treble detail/harmonics, coherence come to mind at once as strongly favoring the HEK Stealth > Arya Stealth. The Arya Stealth has higher ear gain, can sound a little raw/rough. Classical/Jazz/chamber rock favor the HEK, rock and other...- bagwell359

New Sennheiser HD 620S Closed Back
Closed back - a new "bass cannon" using excess reverb/loose bass Q? +5-6 db over 1kHz under 50 Hz... Senn wants to catch on to the market - can't blame them for wanting to boost sales. Like to see a less smoothed curve than the one Senn put out., and distortion figures in the bass, not just...- bagwell359

Headphone recommendations under $300, preferably planar magnetics. Or if possible, ways to give an oomph to my HD600 sub-bass!
That's a sound way to do it. Well grounded techniques and conclusion. Carry on! Added: Getting back to the OP, based on what he's looking for in the bass, a closed back dynamic seems to be the best choice.- bagwell359

Hifiman HE6-SE
Read the following in Headphonesty re: HE-6 SE: This is what neutral planar magnetic bass is all about. It’s there when the music calls for it, but is everything that a bass-boosted signature is not. Notes are controlled and clear. They are viscerally engaging at times and just enough to...- bagwell359

That is fine. There is a clear trend towards more bass over at least the last 25 years in audio - witness the Harman curve under 100 Hz, it's based on preference - not accuracy. To each his own, but the adjective soft, I would put on the far end of the other side beyond positive traits such as...- bagwell359

I answered this before, but just now when reading the Headphonesty review of the HFM HE-6 SE v2 just now found this description of its planar bass: This is what neutral planar magnetic bass is all about. It’s there when the music calls for it, but is everything that a bass-boosted...- bagwell359
