Spot on analysis. I bought a used pair for 400. (from here..well taken care of) and then a new pair for 300 maybe a year/two later. I've never opened the box yet. One of my best bang for the buck headphone.

Post what you eventually get...finding something light weight is one of my conditions. My Aventure is heavy.

With the criteria you provided, I would take a look at the Aventon Level 2. Comes in at 61 pounds and has a torque sensor. I have not personally test rode one. I have the Aventure, but that is more for dirt roads and trails. Post what you find, I'd like to get a pure commuter bike eventually.

The reason I got rid of the 600 was because of the low end. It just can't reproduce it to my liking. My only real complaint of it. Agree with all your rundown in regards to comfort...etc. Would have liked to seen the NightHawk developed further. When I moved, I had all headphones packed...

You probably did this...but did you try the headphones on another amp? Maybe one channel of the amp went out and the drivers are still good.

I've never heard the HD800S....but IMO Sonarworks did wonders for the HD800. And the HD800 handles EQ very well. I see your point though. I used to own the HD600, and it is basically a flat response headphone to begin with. Sonarworks didn't really make a difference. That was another...
