You do realise that that is THE recording of Scheherazade with Reiner and the CSO. The one that launched a thousand audiophile reissues! BTW, I’ve just ordered a PCF802 MM phono stage from an enthusiast amp designer in Romania. It’s a very simple, pure design, and is being customised for use...- CJG888

Where we are today: An Ortofon ST-M72 SUT should be arriving tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how well it matches the SPU #1E. BTW, I picked up a backup #1E for 350€ from a retailer in Paris. Brand new. That’s what Ortofon charges for a retip…- CJG888

New Beyer DT1350
Just bought a used pair of DT-1350 CC on eBay. They are so far ahead of my modded, recabled T51p that it is almost amusing. At last a pair of portable on-ears suitable for classical music! It’s just a shame there is nothing comparable being made today. Not all of us like wearing IEMs…- CJG888

My personal preference would be for an Eumig FL-1000uP, if one comes up at a sensible price and the heads can still be serviced (I think they were made by Alpine). Alternatively, for more sensible money, a good old Nak BX-300…- CJG888

Same here! IIRC, I also used to like Ampex 472 cassettes (when I could get them). Deck was a Nakamichi CR-1E.- CJG888

Of course BASF’s tape division was eventually spun off into Emtec Magnetics. This company failed, all tape manufacturing equipment was sold off to RMG International in the Netherlands, but they too appear to have been out of the tape business for over 10 years now…. Apparently, the equipment was...- CJG888

IIRC, Revox decks were supposed to work particularly well with BASF tapes. I think they were one of the few manufacturers to use true chromium dioxide tape stock, rather than cobalt based “pseudochrome”.- CJG888
