Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I wouldn't call feeding into or even against fanboy fanaticism, being a good post. Have something credible to add, technical, or even a good comparison, by all means post. Otherwise it's just noise. Like this post. Don't have anything good to contribute, don't post. Back to silence.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

It's difficult to discuss here for it rides against the Chord gospel. Anything that is portrayed as improvement in SQ outside a battery, labtop and toslink is chalked up to noise. Plenty of other forums, like CA, have much to discuss on the matter without being confined by the word. Have to...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Makes quite a difference in my system, using a master clock. Once you hear it, you won't want to take it out.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Good idea. But I'm going to take Rob's word on this, no difference. But I'll add the JS 360 shield onto the supplied cables with the M-Scaler. Funny how so many folks choose what to or not to believe as gospel from Rob concerning his design. Quick to jump on others with this gospel when they...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I like this, your on to something. You actually can think of the m-scaler as a specialized low power computer in a dual computer/renderer setup streaming to the DAC. In essence, the m-scaler makes the primary server less of a factor on SQ. Which is a good thing. Still, regardless of it's...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

My answer would be that all your doing is changing the phase/electrical noise accompanying a stream. Solve the clocking and power issues and the resulting streams would be indistinguishable regardless of software, as long as bit perfect.

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

All I can say is your lost here. All media players will decompress FLAC to PCM before streaming. The amount of power needed to perform this function is meaningless today and has a negligible effect on SQ. There are far more bigger dragons to slay in initiating an audio stream. Mobo design...

Also, DAVE runs off of AC. Be kind of difficult on the airplane to use mobile.

Hugo 2, Qutest, TT2 and DAVE all can max out the Hugo M-Scaler capability.

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

You can label it whatever you want, but in the end the component that carries out the streaming is a computer of some sort with a mobo. Your going to want that component to stream to your DAC with the best SQ possible via good clocking and power.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Now you don't believe Rob when he tells you that ferrites make the Hugo M-Scaler worse? When you label his word as final on everything else.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

He said the same for 2Qute and I found that a good LPSU made a big difference. Brilliant designs, but from my listening experience an external LPSU made a big difference. Thus I imagine so for the Hugo M-Scaler. Will find out soon enough.

The fact that DAVE plus BLU or Hugo M-Scaler will have the superior SQ.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Hugo M-Scaler won't have a cd transport. Are you suggesting streaming one to it? Just Hugo M-Scaler + LPSU (good one) + clean clocked stream will be number one.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

You don't know that, because we haven't heard the final Hugo M-Scaler yet. It just may be that it beats the BLU on sound, even when using the transport, which would be system dependent. The Hugo M-Scaler can be powered separately with a clean supply like a Paul Hynes SR7. Which just may...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I see that this is a Windows 10 device driver on the Chord site. Not sure if it's backward compatible with Windows 7? Should be. Sorry, I can't answer you on that renderer question, never has been in my system. Not a fan of it's software inflexibility. Nor a fan of Roon. Your problem lies...

Are you using Windows as OS? If so, download the device driver for DAVE. Power on all downstream components before booting. https://chordelectronics.co.uk/product/dave/ Not sure how Roon works, but I'm sure you'll have to choose the ASIO DAVE driver within the software.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Actually, it doesn't make sense. Far more noise is generated reading off a CD via transport than a hard drive. CD is an outdated data medium. Many audiophiles are moving on to larger content mediums for less foot print and rightfully so. If the BLU MKII is better SQ for CD playback within...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

You are cruel playing into this persons audio nervosa. :deadhorse: TT2/mscaler or DAVE/mscaler, either will be just fine. If driving speakers or hard driven headphones direct you may consider more so the TT2/mscaler. But the good thing about DAVE is that it is available now, whereas the TT2...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

True, BUT, It could also be that the source initiated stream is the culprit and all that the op is doing is coloring the sound to make up for that deficiency. Thus that long time committed thread is explained away with a one liner. Which only begets the question, Why get caught up in creating...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Or better, get some good highly efficient speakers driven direct from TT2 and your done. No need for a more powerful amp when DX arrives, whenever that could be down the road??

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Those Omegas can be driven best with DAVE alone, no power amp. You will get the best resolution doing so. Any other component added will be a compromise of that resolution, often in no small manner. Future Chord DX amps will be the exception at no loss of resolution,. I get all the volume I...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

A server still performs an important function in the initiating and directing of data into a stream. Although M Scaler does reduce the servers importance to sound quality in the equation of the entire system chain, the server still remains a factor in synergy and sound quality, let alone to...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

It's not so much that the smps feeding the mscaler will not be good, but that a smps will kick back noise into the mains and degrade sound in components on the same circuit. Solution, dedicate a circuit to mscaler or use a quality LPS on the same circuit with other components.
