    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

The side sensors are pressure senors, not touch, and you get to calibrate how hard you want to squeeze to activate them. So accidental touch shouldn't be a problem. Camera worse? Forget specs and judge by images, it's the only thing that matters. Anyway the 1.4micron pixels are a consequence of...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

I think it's Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, 3 on the back, so not a shatterproof polymer. (Source: if I remember correctly that's what the HTC guy said on a video on ars technica). The HTC US site's order page has the text "The unlocked HTC 11 is compatible with AT&T and T‑Mobile Networks." on...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

https://twitter.com/LlabTooFeR/statu...20755504300032 Confirms that the U 11 will have a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the box (no further information on the adapter itself). As for the latest teaser, to me it says that it's going to have a similar design language to the Ultra. "Quiet no more"...

I don't know the size either, but they don't have to be large. But they sell these adapters for about £10, so they clearly don't spend a lot on the components. Unfortunately I don't know what the components in the 10 are anyway, so can't guess how much they cost (since the bill of material for...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

I think that's the key question. If they have the same audio system as the Play, i.e. just USB-C digital audio out, then the 3.5mm adapter has to have a DAC and amp in it, and will surely be the same as the one they sell for the Ultra - only hopefully they will bundle it. The only reason it...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

I don't want to get hopes up, but I spotted the other day that the slides at the end of the androidheadlines leak article include the phrase "type c analogue headset" one one slide.    However, I really don't want to get hopes up: since this looks like some sort of marketing presentation...

    Samsung S8 / S8+ Sound Quality

Because they reckon that slapping an AKG label on their earbuds and claiming they are worth $99 is a marketing message that will register with more people than upgrading internal components that the general public don't understand or care about? That's my guess.

Yeah, I know about that spec. Doubt we'll know for sure until the U is announced, but I've been assuming not simply because I've found no indication that their existing USB-audio devices are. I would of course be very pleased if this one were to support it.

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

LG decided that Europeans only want the most basic model (smallest storage, basic DAC, no wireless charging). Samsung is Exynos over here, so will probably have its own DAC in addition to the SoC but no reviews yet, though there's nothing to indicate that they have given the audio more emphasis...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you - I've no interest at all in running a business (and much prefer doing actual work to managing projects)! ;)   Anyway if I were in charge of HTC I'd have told them not to bother with digital audio this year but to keep (and improve) the analogue output. Or...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

How it gets to the headphones does matter because there are still a DAC and an amp involved in those steps.    To drive a pair of headphones from a digital music source there are 3 steps: decoding, digital to analogue conversion, and amplification. What you've described is the first step...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

Actually my only real complaint with the 10 is that it's too big for comfort for me (short fingers).    The trouble is, if you want good headphone audio from a phone where else do you go? The V20 isn't available in Europe, and I don't want anything that size. Samsung and Sony don't match the...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

And then what? You output a digital signal from the port and it has to be converted back to analogue for the headphones...   It may be that in a few years this is what all phones will do, and that by then everyone (except Apple) will be working to standards and you'll be able to choose the...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

I think your basic assumption, that the U will have the 10's DAC/amp combo, is incorrect. Look at the U Ultra as the best indicator of what to expect (also USB-C only output). Digital output with the DAC being in the headphones or in an intermediate device.    The HTC USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is...

    HTC 11 (aka HTC U 11)

I'd be very careful about buying an adapter other than the HTC one unless you have first-hand information that it works with the U (or at least the U Ultra or 10 Evo/Bolt). I've seen HTC U Ultra owners reporting third party and Motorola adapters not working with their phones (e.g. in this...

Review on HtC 10 and Sound quality (AQstic Dedicated Integrated DAC)

I don't think there is. @llabtoofer is very reliable on HTC matters, and is today saying that it has not got one (which agrees with what other sources say).

Review on HtC 10 and Sound quality (AQstic Dedicated Integrated DAC)

Well as the V20 isn't available in Europe it's irrelevant to many of us (I'm not going to pay for an import with dubious warranty cover no matter how good it might be).

Review on HtC 10 and Sound quality (AQstic Dedicated Integrated DAC)

Everyone over at XDA reckons that the Ocean is the U (Ocean just being an internal codename). But nobody believes that the "Ocean" that appears in the concept videos for the edge interface represented the real device. Remember that the Ultra is believed to be the rumoured "Ocean Note".    And...

Review on HtC 10 and Sound quality (AQstic Dedicated Integrated DAC)

It's clearly part of the U series, so although I cannot confirm this (the only "leaks" that seemed to confirm it have been dismissed as fakes) it is hard to believe that it will have a completely different design language from the U Ultra and U Play, both of which are glass designs.
