    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

I empathize - I am removing my R-8 from the system for that exact reason. I could not find a firmware with the balance of what I considered to be the best sound that did not have clicks / pops / otherwise annoying or potentially damaging noises. If I can find one... it will go back in. I...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Wonderful to hear, Mike! Thank you for letting us know how you're doing. All the very best to you and yours.

I never tried swapping the inputs back and forth. Great tip, thanks. I really enjoyed the V3_Syn with (I think) NOS 2. I may try TDA_Syn again to see if your trick works. -cheers

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

I am so glad that the effort paid off in a positive way. I often find that my tastes differ from others and/or that I often can't find too many commonalities with others. I'm a firm believer in that we all have our own ears, gear, and brains (and rooms). The only (very slight) difference in...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

FWIW - I gave it a shot. I swapped the MCLK / BCLK wires back to "stock" and for fun I tried R8TDA_Syn.jic from March 16, 2019. That particular firmware seems to not love my DAC at all (or the SU-1 or something) - nothing but static. I went back to my good ol' R8TDA_Asy.jsy from March 18...

Thanks for the kind words. I assume with the SU-6, you're using IIS, but just confirming. I'm swapping around inputs etc. and removing / inserting the SU-1 in my chain to see if there's a trend. I tried power cycling both. I really liked the V3S firmware - I may head back that direction...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

The bass definition comes back with OS, but something about the current firmware just does not work for me in NOS or OS. There's a loss (to my ears) in width and height to the soundstage, a loss in precision of instrument and voice placement, and a new "edge" to everything. I listened to 4 or...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

Did the update... Still pops when switching within PCM. I need to learn the new settings to ensure I'm comparing apples to apples, but I lost bass on NOS too. The "old" firmware was better, IMO. Oh well, I can always swap back. I'll explore the new settings, but I'd even put up with a...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

Thank you very much @guzz46! I had found the firmware, but what I can't find (yet) is if the parallel firmware uses the same BCLK / MCLK wire swap as the R8_Asy group of firmwares. Anyone know? -Cheers Edited to Add - I think I figured it out. It looks like Kingwa states this on the site...

Thank you @nikko510! I think I had read a while back that the parallel was working well for some folks. I'll start with that. Greatly appreciated. Edited to ask - Is this one of the firmwares that requires the pin change?

Hi All - Long time! I've been enjoying music for the last several months without succumbing to my "need to tweak". I made a few other switches in my system, so I decided to come back to potential updates or changes for either SQ or other UI changes for my R-8. My R-8 has the V2...

@Jackula - Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Greatly appreciated. :relaxed: Would you perhaps take a bit of time to see how you feel about the sonic signature (only in the bass region) of the James Blake song using the using the same source file, but not upsampled from...

I updated my R8. I don't use the USB input any longer, but it did reduce the noise during changes from PCM to DSD and vice versa. No (If you're referring to updating the firmware for the FPGAs). The process is on the Amanero website. There's a fairly lengthly discussion earlier in the thread...

Hi Scott - Thanks as always for keeping the troops in order. I had to pause for a while with the updates. Things were getting a bit overwhelming, I wanted to absorb all the goodness of the simple clock and V2 board updates. I actually went back to V3S just to have a firmware that worked...

In your shoes, I would not worry too much about what each set of clocks in each device is actually doing with each of the firmwares... i.e. which ones are being "used" or which are "better". If you've successfully flashed the firmware before, and if you're comfortable with it - try it. See...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Congratulations @Jason Stoddard, @Baldr and the team at Schiit. It's been a learning experience and a lot of fun watching the Sol progress. It may convince me to spin vinyl again after quite some time. FWIW - as a person that's used "all-in-one" tables in the past, I found the set up video...

The do no connect directly, no. If you want to try I2S, you need additional hardware. Specifically, you'd need a Digital to Digital device with an I2S output. See Singxer SU-6 or Gustard U12 for some popular examples.

Olivier has done it more recently than I, but no. That is not the process for updating the Amanero firmware. See the Amanero site that he linked for clear instructions. Edited to add - just in case you can't find it - https://www.amanero.com/howto.htm

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I first caught wind of the smell of Schiit here on Head Fi. I relocated, space was at premium, and I needed to get my first set of "real" headphones and some supporting gear. I read this thread and Mike's thread from post 1 forward. I wanted to support a cool company and try out the gear...

We've met several times, but I'd certainly enjoy a re-introduction. My last visit was for a pint or two or... when I was in England/Scotland over the previous Christmas holiday.
