Headphone & Amp Impedance Questions? Find the answers here!
Thanks for your reply! With what you've said in mind, is the reason some people describe certain headphones as sounding better when driven balanced because balanced can drive headphones louder? Or can balanced outputs drive certain headphones "to their fullest potential" when single ended can't...- JustASnack

Earplugs
How could I forget. The ER-20s were also my first purchase in high-fidelity earplugs. I bloody hated the things. Both sizes were extremely uncomfortable to wear and the clarity was horrible. I found it difficult to make out even the most obvious melodies at concerts. All I got was a mufflingly...- JustASnack

Earplugs
What earplugs do y'all use for going to concerts and such? I spent a long time using the Flare Isolates however I just bought some Rooth C&P earplugs from Massdrop on a whim and I'm amazed at how better they are at maintaining the world's EQ whilst attennuating to crazy good levels! I haven't...- JustASnack

Headphone & Amp Impedance Questions? Find the answers here!
This may seem a bit silly, but I'm not really sure if using my high-gain switch is affecting the way my music sounds (aside from obviously making the signal louder). Unfortunately blind AB testing is very impractical, since using the switch instantly increases/lowers the volume, without giving...- JustASnack

Is it safe to leave my portable headphone amp plugged in?
Sorry if this isn't the right forum to post this. I couldn't figure if there was anywhere better. I've recently purchased a used Oppo HA-2 for use at my office desktop and for when travelling. Considering that plugging into a PC for audio input also charges the device, would it be wise to leave...- JustASnack

Do you use EQ for headphones?
I never EQ. I gave it a shot at one point, but I ended up spending way too much time trying to get the EQ to sound just perfect, to the point of frutsration and ripping my hair out. I'm better off enjoying my headphones as they are than loosing sleep trying to perfect the EQ.- JustASnack

Does lowering DAC volume compress music?
Castleofargh provides a very satisfying answer! Thanks for your input, though I still have one more question (I apologize for being such a nuisance) :) Let's say that we choose to lower the output volume of the DAC so much that the quieter bits of the song are infact lost, and as you said, the...- JustASnack

Does lowering DAC volume compress music?
Let's say for simplicity's sake that, without adjusting the DAC's volume, if you were to cut out the loudest section of a song, you would get a signal of 2Vrms. Likewise, let's say that the quietest section of the song is a couple moments of complete silence, such that if you were to cut the...- JustASnack

Does lowering DAC volume compress music?
My hypothesis is this: Let's say that my DAC normally outputs a signal which can reach a maximum voltage of 3 volts. This way, I understand that the DAC 'represents' the signal's dynamic range with a bandwidth of 3 volts. Now I lower the volume of the DAC (either through hardware or software)...- JustASnack

Stereo imaging - Vocals towards left side
Funnily enough, I find vocals and music to be panned slightly towards the right when the output signals for both ears are set equally. In order for music played in mono to sound "centered", I need to lower the right channel by 3db. I let this issue worry me a bit until I went to an audiologist...- JustASnack

Need portable headphone AMP/DAC recommendations
Yes, I'll partly be using the HD6XX, though I mainly plan to make use of the DT 770 Pro (the 250 ohm version). I'm guessing that too would be better off with a more powerful amp then, no? If so, are there any other options aside from the Dragonfly Red which may suffice?- JustASnack

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
I've switched between the A and B pads multiple times and have decided to stick with the A pads. On the B pads I found the bass to be too thick and slightly muddy. The midrange tonality felt a bit off with them also since they cause the headphones to be slightly V-shaped. The A pads make the...- JustASnack

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
Hi all. This is my first post on this website. I recently purchased the DT 1990 Pro and they're my second pair of hi-fi headphones after the HD6XX. I'm powering them with a Burson Soloist SL MKII. So far I'm fairly happy with them. The detail and precision of these cans is phenomenal. I keep...- JustASnack
