I think hek se is not worth it. Unless you plan to run it off an extremely high end tube amp, youd have a much better experience with regular hek (or even arya honestly, the difference between arya and new hek is extremely small).

My suggestion would be to try and find some stax lambda signature in good condition with an srd-7 energizer. Sony ta-n86b is a very good amp pairing for vintage stax as well if you can source one. I know this is all vintage gear, but they really dont make them like they used to when it comes to...

Personally, if i was to get 2 end game setups, they would have to be unique. So for me, 2 end game setups would be 1 sus/hek v1 setup, and another one with e-stats (aka, stax), since it actually a different enough experience to warrant spending big money on.

Realistically, if youre looking for the best price to performance, then ~15-25$ iem's with a nice dongle (like meizu hifi black). But if were talking realistic end game for not an insane price, for me, Hifiman edition xs with cayin iha6 (or even schiit jotunheim 2) and ifi zen dac would be it...

yah, it was pretty underwhelming. Ive also had a qutest for about a year and own aryas for several, so the only difference in the chain was anni. I honestly couldnt tell you what the sound profile was since that was about a year ago in canjam, but i recall i was not impressed.

I think you might enjoy old school stax. Some of them absolutely blow sus out of the water for pure detail (like stax lambda signature). Tho there not what youd call natural sounding lol. its a very different experience.

I personally run a vintage 180w speaker amp for the 70's with my hifiman arya, and its a very nice match~ (sony ta-n86b) How ever, you obviously have to be careful, especially with vintage gear, since blowing stuff up is a risk haha. I know this isnt what you asked, but calling hd650 neutral is pure cap. There super mid centric well neglecting both lows and highs (which is fine.... but im really tired of people saying there the ''golden standard'' for neutrality).

Cayin iha6 would be a somewhat warm amp. Its definetly not tube warm, but it leans warm with a bit of extra low end presence, an it also smooths out the highs ever so slightly.

I wouldnt worry to much about specific pairings, since og empys arent that sensitive to gear. Thats what you get with easy to run cans, its both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you dont need fancy gear.... but on the other hand, if you do have fancy gear money, it wont change the sound that...
