    Suggestions for next cans

I’d try the Sennheiser HD600/650/6XX series as a good but different companion to the AKG. Warmish, relaxed but high quality. The 6XX can be found cheap (well, because it was already cheap on sale) in the FS section.

What are you looking for relative to what you have? Closed/open, more detail or warmer etcetera? What is the budget?

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Maybe. From my limited impressions so far, a little warmer doesn’t hurt and I do need an affordable good sounding closed headphone in a few months time. I figured a DT1770 would be only a little more than I just paid so would be a good option after selling this T1. Actually, I was thinking about...

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Well, I really have very little play on the volume knob. Sadly no adapter for a direct connection to my phone or laptop. Wow, suggest a headphne three times more than an already expensive $500 one... I’m not likely to pay more than a thousand bucks for a headphone (anymore ), with the sole...

The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

A little late to the game but I just got an early version T1 (<2000). They really are efficient, with Meridian Explorer and Graham Slee Solo there is pretty much no play on the volume control. 7 / 8 oclock is loud enough even in my workspace, an open office with 5 or 6 people. No isolation so a...

WEE - new product from Woo Audio

Which basically is sound advice for any amp/speaker/headphone combination. Most speakers (and your ears) can’t handle 150W+ either. Just like your normal speakers: you’ll be fine with some common sense.

Not sure if this was corrected: No it won’t. USB out is not a general digital signal that your receiver will understand.

    Sennheiser HE60 / HEV70

I’m sure it was purely for soundquality reasons :p We sort-of tried getting real leather by a third party (also for HD) but that failed. Great, now I’m in the ‘regret I sold them’ mood...

    Sennheiser HE60 / HEV70

The earpads are different from the Hd6xx series, different shape plastic to connect. And ofcourse pleather instead of velours so different isolations characteristics. Great set, don’t think I got to try them on my Stax amp at the time but sounded wonderful anyway. Nice to have something...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Not that odd, you probably won’t actually use 100WPC anyway. I changed from a 100W to a 35W amp and it still goes louder than I’d like. I think I had a 15W-ish T-amp at some point that was loud too. At home 10 proper Watts might be plenty for most of us. Differences in gain (amount of...

    Schiit LISST Impressions

Just curious, has anyone tried these in other amps? What could be a reason for it to not work? My integrated amp uses 6922eh as preamp valves and I'm looking at some different flavors to play with.

I'd say the playback device on the server should have not impact on the Link sound output, but you can try enabling the onboard audio in W10 (and maybe remove HiFace) and see if it changes? Troubleshooting step 1.   Also, check if the sound output of the Link/Game is in PCM stereo, PCM signal...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Best poweramp I've had at home, by far, was the Hypex UcD400. Amazing control and bass... There is always personal preference and there certainly is a lot of Class A and A/B stuff that isn't all that good. One type of amp is not inherently better than the other, and Class A/B is also a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Was thinking that too, passive pre at max volume is essentially a passthrough, but it's a sure way to eventually blow up your speakers when you switch back to active pre-amp setting and forget to lower the volume..

Those creditcardremote things are horrible, but I guess any universal remote is easily set to replace it, from €10/15 to whatever you want to spend.

    CD to MP3 encoding

Do you also use iTunes for regular listening? Rip to ALAC then, same as FLAC but for Apple devices and fully convertible to FLAC if needed later. ALAC is also useable in most modern software players, so in combination with iTunes for the Shuffle it may still be useful.    You could let iTunes...

    CD to MP3 encoding

I agree, rip to FLAC (and make a backup) and make a separate MP3 copy from it. Transcoding to MP3 later is very fast and then you don't ever have to do the ripping again.    The internal drive should be perfectly capable of making lossless copies btw.

moving from Windows to Mac, is iTunes at all realistic for audiophiles?

For all I know, OSX doesn't alter the output if there is one stream. By default, it will be bitperfect with one stream in the 'normal' 44.1kHz frequency.   Anyway, since there is HiRes in play: The BitPerfect software is needed to automatically switch between CD and HiRes material. Great tool...

moving from Windows to Mac, is iTunes at all realistic for audiophiles?

Ok, iTunes is bitperfect for the samplerate set in AudioMidi and if the volume is at 100%. Normal CD, which still is the most used quality, is bitperfect by default. BitPerfect helps to overcome this. High res PCM is no problem, dont think it'll do DSD unless it is in a pcm container for DoP? I...

moving from Windows to Mac, is iTunes at all realistic for audiophiles?

ITunes is bitperfect as it is, sounds fine for me. The extra BitPerfect software makes iTunes autoswitch samplerates, which was the only real drawback. you can try other software lioe Amarra and PureMusic. Free trials available. I'd suggest trying Roon for a great interface and also supporting...

Inexpensive high quality Home music server

Do as you please, but it's weird seeing a topic starting with 'inexpensive' ending with a €3000+ streamer instead of a €500 something MacMini or even cheaper (not less quality but more DIY) fanless Linux/MPD thing. <€1000 vs >€3000... Anyway, software is what it's all about, it's what you will...
