New Head-Fier
Pros: Great sound
Venture Electronics Monk Ie Smalls impression:

Received the package on 16/11 but due to outstation to work, only able to test the first glimpse on 18/11.

1. Package:

-Smalls x 1

-Biggie x 1

-Spc 2 pin balance cable x 1

-Espresso 2 pin Cable x 1

-Mic cable x 1

-White hard fabric clamp shell case x 1

-Metal case x 1

-Plenty of eartips including double/triple flange, hybrid tips and Foam tips

2. Finishing:

Both Biggie and Smalls comes with metallic colour, it does look plasticky in the picture, but believe me they look premium in real. The housings are made from plastic I supposed, but not a cheap one. They should be quite durable for daily iem purpose.

3. Sound:

Gear: Smalls + mid white tips + espresso cable +2.5/3.5 adapter + Sony Uda1 + Foorbar2k with DSD/Flac songs.

-3.1 Bass

The bass on Smalls is consider as strong, not bloated nor overpowered. Listening to trance is acceptable, but you won’t get enough excitement for head banging. Although the Smalls are tuned base on Monk plus, Smalls are capable of delivering adequate amount of bass, they are fast and has great impact. Sub bass is present, you can even get slight in ear vibration effect with Justin Timberlake - Blue Ocean. Mid bass are fine in the Smalls, you’re able to differentiate between the mid bass and the mid. Listening to Dress On- Justin Timberlake, you can feel the impact of the bass and fast decay/bounce back, it’s like a pack of wave is coming from sides. In short they are just right in amount, fast and 'impactful".

-3.2 Mid

Mid are quite similar with Monk plus, they are slightly emphasized. Listening to Vocal song is certainly enjoy with Smalls. Diana Krall voice does sounded full and bodied, the graininess of her voice are definitely audible. The mid are forward, it’s like the vocal in your face type. The warm signature of Smalls push the mid further, but don’t get me wrong they are not muddy at all. Just sometimes the upper mid could sounds empty on certain songs. Again, mid of Smalls are great.

-3.3 Treble

Treble presentation on the Smalls are adequate, it does not sound rolled off but present in good amount. It’s not super sparkling and crisp like bright iem, ear piercing or sibilance definitely not present in the high. Cymbal sounded how they should be, the treble in smalls definitely helps in creating the airy feel and extend the soundstage further. in short they sounded very much like how they sounded in Monk plus but more refined.

4. Final thought

Both Biggie and Smalls require burn in, the Smalls wake sooner than Biggie. Upon open box the Smalls sounded ok, the mid and mid bass are mixing together, burn in definitely helps to separate them.

The soundstage on Smalls are freaking good, spacious and 3 dimensional. For those who intended to drive with Zishan, they sounded quite good for me. But comparing with my UDA1, you’ll missed out some micro details on Zishan, but they absolutely fine. I would choose this iem over many iem with premium price out there any time. Again Lee did a remarkable milestone for Venture Electronics. At least I never regret purchasing product from them.
