*Build*

Fostex can design a nice looking and solidly built earphone.  These are tough and are very much "street" like as they describe.
From top to bottom, the TE-03 looks like it can take a beating, then ask for more.  Strain relief is more than sufficient at both the earpiece and 3.5mm plug.  The cable itself is flat and strong, with anti-tangling memory.

*Functions*

As it is meant for on the go, the TE-03 comes with an in-line microphone.  There is a rewarding click for each press of the Play/Pause - Answer/End button.

*Fit*

The housing on the Fostex TE-03 looks to be on the larger side, but once you place them in the ears, you quickly realize that looks can be deceiving.
With four different sized tips, comfort is easier to find.  The earpieces are light and unobtrusive.  These can be worn for lengthy periods with little discomfort.

*Sound*

Sound signature is that of a relaxed nature.  The TE-03 is not overly bassy, nor does it extend up into the highs too far.  Mids are controlled and neutral. I feel Fostex tuned these to be smooth and non-fatiguing.  These are portable pair of earphones that can be used for extended periods, without becoming bothersome.  There is enough detail to remind you that these are from the Fostex family, though could use a little more excitement.
Soundstage and instrument separation are adequate. Music representation is fairly accurate and without veiling.

*Overall Thoughts*

This is the first time I am hearing a Fostex Product and I'm enjoying the easy going sound signature of the TE-03.  I can tell it was designed up to be a tough, functional, travel pair of earphones.  For this, Fostex did very well.  For dynamic listening, one would want to go up the range a bit, to the TE-05/TE-07.  With a Fostex product you are paying for functionality and sound.  For this there is a slight premium. While their are other earphones in this category that cost less, Fostex does provide a solidly built product with focus and a straightforward sound.  These are good little earphones and more importantly, my ears like them.

Thanks for reviewing! Any chance you've also heard TE-02? If so, how do they compare?
