Lyr 2 Headphone Amplifier

General Information

Lyr 2 is the next generation of one of the most popular high-power headphone amps, with added versatility and convenience. It's a complete control center for your desktop system, with preamp outputs for powered desktop speakers, as well as a gain switch for use with virtually any headphone.

Completely Redesigned for Flexibility
We completely reworked Lyr 2 to make it an even higher-performing, more flexible amp. We added a gain switch so you can now use efficient headphones (and even many IEMs.) We've also cut the noise with a new regulated high-voltage supply and DC regulated heaters. A refined Dynamically Adaptive output stage transitions seamlessly from Class A to Class AB, for excellent overall efficiency.

From IEMS and Orthos to Active Monitors
Lyr 2 offers two gain settings. The gain of 1 is good for most sensitive headphones, including efficient on-ear models and many IEMs, while the gain of 8 is ideal for inefficient orthodynamics and high-impedance headphones. In addition, the preamp outputs can easily be connected to powered speakers, for a complete desktop system.

Roll Your Own Sound
Like Lyr, Lyr 2 lets you "roll" many different tube types to your own preference. Use 6BZ7, 6DJ8, 6922, ECC88, 2492, and many other tube types to get your perfect sound.

Made in USA
By "made in USA," we mean made in USA. The vast majority of the total production cost of Lyr 2-chassis, boards, transformers, assembly, etc-goes to US companies manufacturing in the US. Our board house is 20 minutes away from our office in Newhall. Our chassis guys are just over the hill in the Valley.

5-Year Warranty
Lyr 2 is covered by a limited warranty that covers parts and labor for five years. That's 5 years. Yes. FIVE. Which is up to 5X that of our competition, if you weren't so hot at math. Note the marketing weasel-wording "up to." One exception: the tubes. Those we cover for 3 months.

Pros: Great sound from a neo industrial unit, great introduction to tube rolling
Cons: Runs a bit hot, the couple's knobs faceplate indicator can be hard to notice.
The Schiit Audio Lyr 2 was my first desktop amp and its a fantastic sounding amp. This amp comes in a neo industrial brushed aluminum chassis. This design chooses function over flash. The front of this fantastic amp, has a large volume knob and a SE headphone jack. The volume knob works great, although, at night, in low light conditions, I have a hard time noticing the volume indicator, on the face plate. On the back of this amp you have two sets of RCA jacks, a gain switch and a off and on toggle switch. IMG_20151204_190624.jpg

This amp sounds great, its a hybrid amp, so the sound does not get too overly lush sounding, like a straight up tube amp. The bass is powerful, with lots of impact, yet it does not bleed into the mids. The bass on Frank Zappa's San Ber'dino sounds superb, on this amp. The mids are sweet and lush, yet very natural sounding. The highs are good, with no annoying sybilance, that can fatigue ones hearing. The soundstage is fairly large, detailed and holographic. I spent, many a night listening to old Pink Floyd, The Wall, or Dark Side of the Moon, enjoying the holographic soundstage of the Lyr 2, as it drove my Alpha Primes and the other cans in my collection.
The Lyr 2 is a fantastic headhone amp , that offers lots of value, for the money. The amp is built rock solid and is a good introduction to tube rolling. I will not delve into the best tube to use. I could write, forever describing the rabbit hole, called tube rolling. My only advice, go for NOS tubes, if you can . One more thing put the amp in a good ventilated area, for this amp can run hot.

Very good review. I actually have my Lyr 2 on some bigger feet to make sure there is also air flow all around the unit.

Nice, solid review! I think the Gold Lions are a good option with the Lr 2, until you can find an affordable pair of NOS tubes.
