New Head-Fier
Simgot EW100P DSP Review
Pros: 1. Very budget friendly

2. A good Harman tuned iem which does everything well.

3. Has a great mic for your calls and video calls

4. Very small and lightweight so great for everyday use

5. Very comfortable to wear

6. Great bass texture for such a small iem.

7. Great Soundstage
Cons: 1. The cable are fixed, a removable cable would have been nice.

2. The same Harman tune could be a con for some as many dislikes it.

3. The upper mids could get a bit shouty/shrilly for some.

4. A small cheap case would have been nice (could be a nitpick)

Introduction :-

Today I will be reviewing the Simgot EW100P Dsp, this is the dsp version of the regular EW100P iem. This is my first Simgot iem and also my first DSP iem. Simgot was found in 2015 in China.

I have also shared a video version of the review at YouTube any support there in form of a view, like or subscribe is greatly appreciated. But if you so wish to read the written version you can read this.

I want to say a big thanks to SIMGOT for sending me this iem, All the thoughts and opinions you are about to read are my own and Simgot has had no input for this review, nor are they having a copy of approval for this review.

You can check them out here

I will be as usual following my bullet style format for better readability for those who are dyslexic and in general find it hard to read long paragraphs. I follow this guide in general from the British Dyslexia Association.

Build quality, Comfort and Accessories :-

- They come in the small shiny silver looking box and they have this cute shark artwork which I quite liked.

- Packaging is very minimal and they have the iem which has in-removable cable and a pair of tips

- These cost $25

- These are a DSP iem and this is my first time using a DSP iem. DSP means a digital signal processing chip which is basically a chip where you can digitally tune the sound baring the driver produces them accurately. Here this iem follows the Harman 2019 curve to the T.

- They are very lightweight and are really comfortable to wear for a long periods of time.

- Although I like the cable for them being very light I am a bit scared as I might break them If it gets tugged a bit hard.

- There is no usb c to usb a included in the box, so if you plan to use them on a computer or laptop without usb c you might have to purchase that separately. Although most people will probably use these with their usb c phone.

- Very bare bones packaging

- No driver flex here

- Love the transparent design. Very calming and unique design.

Imagepipe_93.jpg

Sound signature :-

- As mentioned earlier these follow the Harman 2019 curve to the T but with a slight bass tuck

- From the graph it looks like they have a bit more bass than its 3.5mm counterpart. You can check the graph here

- The bass is really good, they have a good rumble.

- It is more of a sub-bass focused than mid-bass focused sound.

- The mids are a bit recessed.

- The male vocals in these sit a bit on the background and lack that forward-ness, although then again this is expected of the tuning and quite a nitpick for the price range.

- While female vocals sounds surprisingly good and enjoyable, My test tracks sounds quite good here and I was quite surprised as to how good they sound. This could be a setback for some as that also gives that shouty-ness in the upper mid range.

- The treble is quite good again overall, i am very happy with how these turn out. Very sparkly and very crisp here for the price range. I found the treble to be a tad bit better than the Moondrop Chu 2's

- The treble isn't that well extended, which does short stop in some songs. But then again these are $25 and you could put it as a nitpick for this price.

- a little bit more of airiness of the treble would have made them a bit more nice.

- Again keeping the price in mind, the technicalities is quite good. It has decent instrument separation for the price.

- The soundstage is surprisingly wide and deep. Again a big surprise for me as I am someone who enjoys a big soundstage so I quite liked it. I really enjoyed listening to the "Galactic Funk - 1985 Live" By Caisopea. It was surprisingly good!

- Imaging is quite decent too and nothing out of the ordinary. The transitions here were average.

- Technicalities are quite good for the price and busy tracks with a lot of instruments sounded really well and i could discern the different instruments played.

- Some people in the hobby might be a bit put off by the fact that the iem is harman tuned as there are many who find harman to be quite shouty.

Gaming Test :- These do quite well for the gaming with it quite good soundstage and average imaging. I was moderately happy with them. And for me they didn’t get piercy or shouty when there was lot happening in the scene with gunshots and everything else.

Mic Test :- I have done the mic test on my YouTube video and shared a small sample there. For calls and zoom calls they are quite good and the other side has had no issues whatsoever during a call

Imagepipe_94.jpg

Recommendation & Final Thoughts :-

- Overall I would say these does everything really well while not being good at that one particular thing, now some might see that as a bad thing. I personally don’t because if someone is getting first into the hobby and want an all rounder iem and want a dsp iem and cant afford a 3.5mm iem and a dongle (Thank you apple for removing the jack and all companies following suite with it) These will be a great buy.

- Also I quite enjoy watching YouTube videos, some movies with these work quite well for that. They are very small and great for everyday carry too. I suggest getting a cheap $1-2 case from Aliexpress or Amazon and use that to carry these around.

- I would say even If you have 3,5mm iems daps etc these make a great purchase for everyday use with your phones.

- As my first DSP Iem I am really impressed. Hope to see more from this tech going forward.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask me and also if you have any issues regarding this format of review please do comment I will try to mend it. Also sorry to those who are used to reading long paragraphs of review in headfi. I hope my review was upto the mark, I appreciate any feedback.

Again a big thanks to SIMGOT for making this review possible.

Have a great day ahead :)

This unit was sent by Simgot. Rest assured they didnt bribe me. My thoughts are my own and my preferences might be different from yours

Also, I already made an unboxing and short review on youtube, here:

⚜️WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

received_7045318315534556.jpg

You get a very basic box. I mean, it is really just the box that houses the sets and accessories.

Inside you get:

1. The ew100dsp with the DSP cables attached.

2. Eartips

Yeah that’s it. Pretty simple right? Haha

⚜️BUILD and COMFORT
received_838135254520672.jpg

The set is made of plastic. To be honest, they feel cheap. There is a sticker that shows the logo and some writing that says “simgot high resolution” and “ salute to art and science”

The fit is very commendable tho. Like really snug and I can fit them really deep. Not to mention the cable that doesn’t have any hooks, so they don’t create any resistance that pulls the IEMS out of your ears.

⚜️SETUP:

-Shanling M3X using UAPP, Hiby ang stock player

-stock eartips

⚜️SOUND PROFILE

The tonality of this set is approaching neutrality that follows the harman 2019 target, but not quite. What I mean is that, on graphs they look like they are closely following the curve, but when listening to them, I get lesser perceived bass.

Talking about bass, they are decent. Nothing much to ramble about. This is a single DD unit and everything in the tuning is done my the DSP chip, so they are similar to EQing a single DD iem. The good thing is that, they aren’t really that muddy. It stays clean without smearing the lower mids. I cant really complain much because of its price range, but I also feel like other DSPs are doing a better job in the lower frequencies.

I like the mids. Vocals sound forward and instruments doesn’t sound artificial. Well, safe to say that the EW100DSP isnt really doing anything wrong.

Treble is just enough to compliment the signature, but I get lesser air to make them satisfying. But then again, this is me demanding from a single driver with DSP haha. I do notice the driver limitation, but at least they don’t have any peaks or harshness.

There may be some occasional shout from female vocals, but they are just nitpick at best.

It is interesting to note that this set actually has above average layering. Thanks to DSP tuning, the mids sound very open that makes layering and separation easy to catch. I wouldn’t say they are the most resolving in the price range tho, but this has to be the most open sounding set in the bracket.

❤️PROS

✅open sounding mids

✅non fatiguing treble

✅pleasing tonality with good layering

✅natural sounding vocals and instruments

✅detachable DSP cable

💢CONS

❌average bass response

❌potential shout on some female vocals

❌accessories are standard

❌DSP. Maybe some people don’t mind this. But if I use my DAP, I cannot control the volume wheel when the screen is off.

⚜️SCORING

-Please be reminded that my scoring is always based on its price range.

TUNING - 2

BASS - 2

MIDS - 3

TREBLE - 2

TECHS - 3

✅P.P SCORE = 12 (A-)

💥generally better than other sets. Very good for the price but the tonality might not match your preferences

⚜️COMPARISONS

⏯️Quarks DSP

-the quarks DSP is smoother sounding than the EW100 but you also get a non-detachable DSP. The EW100 also sound more open sounding but I feel like the quarks is tonality better.

⏯️Tanchjim one DSP

-the tanchjim one sounds better for me. Bass has better texure and the treble is airier. I just sense that the driver used is superior to that of Simgot’s. you can also adjust the tuning profile from the tanchjim app, so it is more versatile.

⏯️Tanya DSP

-I also prefer the tanya DSP. They just sound more engaging and more refined. Although basslets might not prefer the signature of Tanya. The EW100 sound more open as well, but instrument and vocal timbre goes to Tanya.

⏯️Other budget set from KZ, TRN etc.

- I do think this is where the EW100 dsp excels at because these are safeer sounding compared to other budget offerings. You get lesser peaks and the tuning is more refined. I can recommend to buy the EW100 DSP if you are tired of getting disappointed by some companies.

🤔FINAL THOUGHTS
received_881132516209401.jpg

So yeah, I do think that the EW100 DSP is a good sounding set, but overshadowed by Tanchjims. The versatily of the tanchjim app is unparalleled as of this writing. The only wining trait of the EW100 DSP over Tanya and One is probably its open sounding mids. Other than that, Simgot has to level up their game when it comes to DSP implementation.

“Salute to art and science”, now I understand why this is written. They need this the most.

SHORT REVIEW:

The Simgot EW100 DSP exists as a fun, nice-sounding solution to the lack of an audio jack that has a well-rounded tuning that would fit most people’s library. It’s a very straightforward experience from unboxing it to plugging and playing which means expect very little user modification due to its non-detachable type-c nature. Beware of compatibility issues, however. RECOMMENDED WITH CAVEATS

Simgot EW100 DSP Review!

Good day! After 5 days of casual and critical listening, here’s my written review for the Simgot EW100 DSP. The future is now!
Disclaimer:
  • I don’t read FR graphs. I only use my ears, as how earphones should be used.
  • Simgot sent this unit to me in an exchange for an honest, unbiased review. Rest assured that this review will do its best to devoid from any bias/es as much as possible.

IEM/Earbud/Setup configuration: stock medium clear eartips, any form of EQ or MSEB off, DSP/USB-C plug, 40-60% volume, ================================================================================================================

Sound signature:
  • Following the company’s refreshed house sound, the Simgot EW100 DSP is a harman-sounding (u-shaped) set that leans to the warmer side of the spectrum.
Lows:
  • This region of the EW100 DSP is the most elevated among all the other frequencies. It is punchy, thick, with a good amount of speed on its attack and decay. Despite being classified as a “bassy” set to my ears, it never sounded soft or muddy even when used with bass heavy genres or tracks. Bassheads on a budget will like this set, but will find this not too bassy if they have listened to the KBEAR Rosefinch and KS2 already.
Mids:
  • Despite not being the IEM’s highlight, the mids here are clean and open while maintaining its presence. This is why I described its overall sound as a “well-done Harman”. Lower mids exhibit a good amount of thickness and texture. Upper mids are well-elevated, never sounding sibilant, while maintaining the overall clarity, air and sparkle.
Highs:
  • Moving into the treble region, this is also well-extended and never sounded “bright” to my ears, but never sounded “dark” either. It exhibits a good amount of presence, air, and detail.
Soundstage, Imaging, and separation:
  • Simgot managed to tune this IEM with a good balance of technical and tonal performance in terms of quality. Soundstage is average, wider than deep, with a good amount of depth. Separation and layering here is average to my ears and sounds clean on heavy passages. Imaging is precise and has no problem rendering positions on both music listening sessions and competitive gaming.
================================================================================================================
Other IEM comparisons!

VS CCA Duo

  • The Duo is a brighter, leaner sounding set. EW100 is warmer with up to par technical performance.
VS Tanchjim One
  • Both exhibit nearly the same sound, with the EW100 DSP sounding a bit “open” than the One. However, the One excels on the presences of its mids and technical performance by a tiny bit. Its cable is removable too.
VS Simgot EW200
  • Despite being made by the same company, The EW200 is better overall when compared. It is cleaner, more detailed, more technical, but leans more on the brighter side of the spectrum. Build quality is also better.
================================================================================================================
Pros:
  • All rounder, “well-balanced” sound signature.
  • Fun yet clean and “fairly precise” sound.
  • Thick, impactful lows.
  • Clean, clear mids.
  • Non-fatiguing upper frequencies.
  • Very good upper frequencies.
  • Does not need any extra DAC because the cable has the DAC itself.
  • Suitable for all phones that have USB-C as the only port.
  • Plug-and-play.
  • Very good mic quality.
  • Very good fit, comfort and isolation.
  • Very light to the ears! (subjective)
  • Fairly easy to drive.
Cons:
  • May sound “too common” for some hobbyists (subjective).
  • Non-detachable cable.
  • Barebone accessories.
================================================================================================================
Verdict

The Simgot EW100 DSP welcomes the modern music-listening area with a practical approach: utilizing the USB-C port while being relatively cheap, in a budget “audio-enthusiast” way. While it may not be the most “unique” product to have ever existed in this saturated, Chi-Fi audio market, it sure is one of the recommendable IEMs as an everyday carry due to its all-rounder, clean sound signature and quality. Well done!

Pairing recommendation/s:
  • Eartips: The eartips are alright and enough for the most part. You may always use your preferred eartips.
Thank you for reading!
