Build: Hard plastic shell, feels high quality though. Nozzle has a lip but is on the shorter side (which seems to be pretty typical of TWS iems). Touch controls on the faceplate.

Fit: Decent, it is a bit on the larger side for my ears so it doesn’t sit that flush.

Comfort: Pretty decent, not that good for longer sessions for me though.

Isolation: Slightly above average due to the shell covering my entire ears.

TWS: (TAKE THIS SECTION WITH A BIG GRAIN OF SALT, I AM NOT EXPERIENCED WITH TWS!) There is no ANC or Ambient mode on it and no app exists as of this review. I got 5 hours with APTX Adaptive while it was connected to my Oneplus 8T and the case charged it 4 times, so that would be 5 + 20 = 25 hours in total.

Setup: Asus BT500 adapter (Windows 10, volume 36/100), Tanchjim Echo filters (stacking a backup filter over the stock one) Final Audio Type E tips LL

Lows:
Sub-bass focused, very clean due to the fast/tight speed and relatively low mid-bass quantity. Doesn’t rumble much nor extend that low though, not for bassheads and not a very consumer-like tuning.

Mid-bass: Metallica – fight fire with fire (01:11-01:52), very clean due to the fast/tight bass, does lack some quantity while texture is just decent. The (02:55-03:01) section with the chopper is very clean and hearable.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Pretenders (01:18-01:47), very clean due to the fast/tight bass, pretty good texture although quantity is a bit low. Tonality is a bit too bright though.

Sub-bass: Djuro – Drop that bass (01:15-01:30), doesn’t rumble much and extension isn’t that good. Punch quantity and texture are lacking, it is very tight/fast though.

Will Sparks – Sick like that (03:08-03:22), decent texture, a bit more quantity would be preferable but it is pretty good. Very clean due to the speed/tightness.

Mids: Female vocals are very good, clean, detailed, forward and tonally correct with good timbre. Male vocals on the other hand, are a bit recessed in comparison, not very good tonality (lacks warmth), timbre is not as accurate, but is still very clean and detailed. Great for female vocals, but not so much for male vocals.

Female-vocals: Hiroyuki Sawano – OldToday (01:25-01:52), vocal tonality is very good, very forward, clean and detailed while timbre is good. Instrument tonality lacks warmth but is clean, timbre is just decent though.

Yuki Hayashi – MightU (01:58-02:55), both vocals and instrument tonality are very good, clean and detailed. Good timbre.

Evanescence – Bring me to life (01:18-01:35), shouty and while the treble isn’t particularly peaky, it is too elevated and fatiguing.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Crescent (02:07-02:26), very shouty and sharp treble, very fatiguing.

Male-vocals: Hiroyuki Sawano – Pretenders (00:57-01:17), vocals lack warmth and is a bit recessed, but is very clean and detailed while timbre is decent. Instrument tonality also lacks some warmth.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Scapegoat (00:57-01:17), vocals and instrument lack a lot of warmth, is clean and detailed, timbre is bottlenecked by the tonality though.

Treble: Linkin Park – Shadow of the Day (03:24-03:42), electric guitars are a bit sharp, quite fatiguing due to the bright tonality.

Deuce – America (03:03-03:16), fatiguing due to the elevated treble, imaging and separation are very good though.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Lose (string version) (01:22-01:59), Cello tonality lacks warmth, but good texture, clean and detailed, decent timbre. Violin tonality, treble-extension, detail and clarity are excellent, timbre could be a bit better.

Hiroyuki Sawano &Z (02:18-02:57), tonality is decent, but too much treble quantity. Clean and detailed though.

Soundstage: Quite wide, not that much depth though.

Tonality: Bright U-shape. Timbre is decent, note-weight is on the thinner side. Not particularly versatile, more of a specialist tuning.

Details: impressive macro and micro-details (has the tonality advantage though).

Instrument Separation: Very good separation and impressive imaging.

Bass: Djuro – Drop that bass (01:15-01:30), extends a bit lower on the Echo but rumbles more on the CX400. Punch quantity is higher on the CX400 but more textured, tighter and faster on the Echo. More tonally correct and a bit better timbre on the CX400.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Pretenders (01:18-01:47), more quantity on the CX400 but more textured and cleaner due to the faster/tighter bass on the Echo. A bit better tonality on the CX400 and timbre.

Metallica – fight fire with fire (01:11-01:52), Much cleaner bass due to the lower quantity and tighter/faster bass on the Echo but more fatiguing due to the treble quantity.

Mids: Hiroyuki Sawano – OldToday (01:25-01:52), better vocal tonality, more forward, cleaner and more detailed on the Echo, although timbre is bit better on the CX400. Instrument tonality and timbre are better on the CX400 but cleaner and more detailed on the Echo.

Evanescence – Bring me to life (01:18-01:35), shoutier, peakier and much more fatiguing on the Echo.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Scapegoat (00:57-01:17), vocal and instrument tonality is a lot better on the CX400, better timbre and a bit more forward vocal. Cleaner and more detailed on the Echo.

Treble: Linkin Park – Shadow of the Day (03:24-03:42), electric guitars are sharper on the Echo.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Lose (string version) (01:22-01:59), Cello tonality, timbre and texture are better on the CX400 but cleaner and more detailed on the Echo. Violin tonality, texture, treble-extension, detail and clarity are a lot better on the Echo, although timbre is similar.

Hiroyuki Sawano &Z (02:18-02:57), a bit better tonality on the CX400 similar timbre, but cleaner and more detailed on the Echo.

Technicalities: Shiro Sagisu – Hundred years war (02:24-02:57), Wider on the Echo but deeper on the CX400. Separation, detail and imaging are a lot better on the Echo. Timbre is a bit better on the CX400.

Overall: The Echo is more technical while they are both more into being specialists rather than versatilists. For my library, the CX400 has the edge in tonality, but if you listen to a lot of weeb-tracks, then the Echo is for you. As a TWS though, I say the CX400 is the better one, since bass compensation is needed if you are using it outside (and treble is tuned so you can ramp the volume up without treble murder).

Technicalities: Shiro Sagisu – Hundred years war (02:24-02:57), a bit wider on the Echo but a lot deeper on the Pro. Imaging is a bit better on the Echo, similar separation and details. Timbre is a lot better on the Pro.

Overall: The Buds Pro are tuned better and more versatile, and has better timbre than the Echo. They are similarly technical. Echo is more suited if you prefer a brighter tonality. As a TWS the Buds Pro are better, has more functions (ANC/Ambient), shell is smaller (less wind-noise), has a dedicated app and a tonality that is more suited for outside use than the Echo.

Bass: Djuro – Drop that bass (01:15-01:30), Extends deeper, with similar rumble. Punch quantity is similar but more textured and tighter, similar speed. Tonality is a bit better on the O2 as well as timbre.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Pretenders (01:18-01:47), a bit more quantity on the O2 as well as more texture. Similar speed/tightness. A bit better tonality on the O2 and better timbre.

Metallica – fight fire with fire (01:11-01:52), similarly clean bass but a bit more texture on the O2, more fatiguing treble on the Echo though.

Mids: Hiroyuki Sawano – OldToday (01:25-01:52), Vocal tonality is better, more detailed, cleaner and better timbre on the O2. Instrument tonality is a bit better (warmer) on the O2 as well as cleaner, more detailed and better timbre.

Evanescence – Bring me to life (01:18-01:35), both are shouty but a bit more on the Echo as well as peakier/more elevated treble.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Scapegoat (00:57-01:17), vocal and instrument tonality is a bit better on the O2 as well as more forward vocals, cleaner and more detailed.

Treble: Linkin Park – Shadow of the Day (03:24-03:42), sharper on the Echo and more fatiguing.

Hiroyuki Sawano – Lose (string version) (01:22-01:59), Cello tonality, texture, detail and timbre are better on the O2. Violin tonality, timbre, texture, detail, clarity and treble-extension are better on the O2.

Hiroyuki Sawano &Z (02:18-02:57), a bit better tonality on the O2 and better timbre and detail.

Technicalities: Shiro Sagisu – Hundred years war (02:24-02:57), a lot wider and deeper on the O2, more holographic. Separation, detail, imaging and timbre are better on the O2.

Overall: The O2 is better in every way and they are basically doing the same thing. If you already have the O2, there is no need to get the Echo unless you want a similar tonality in TWS form.

Conclusion:
The Echo is a pretty impressive TWS, judging from its technicalities and it is pretty well tuned (well, at least after you put another filter on it). If you are looking for a technical and on the brighter side TWS, I do recommend it.

@jant71 glad to hear I didnt do something wrong with the battery test then.

If you are wondering about the stock tips, they didnt work (seal) for me, like pretty much all stock tips. I am using the Type E because it reduces treble peaks, so the bass would indirectly be boosted (perceived more).

Excellent review, I was looking to get a TWS for listening to rock/metal. Gotta skip this one.
