Hello there !
I have already read many reviews that always classify the k702 on the top of the triad among the K 7xx série . On other hand the official AKG site says the k701 is the superior over the k702 with bigger driver, special pads etc .

So which one could be better taking into consideration the equal price of 120 euros for the 701 and 702 and 200 euros for the 712 ??


Personally I had already tested the k 712 and found the sound profile was alitle bit dark rather than neutral .

The one I own are 701 made in Austria. Now I have the 7XX Drope version. It’s flat frequency making a need for pad change if bass is your gig like mine. So I took square hole pads used on SJY headphones. This made a difference in bass. I could finally hear low note rumble with definition. Mid range and treble stayed neutral still. Open sounding.

I also like the K701 better. I didn’t like the K712 because unnaturalness of the bass and “lack of air” at the highs range (in this range it is similar to K872). K712 mids are good, but no better than the K612.

I didn’t enjoy the 701 with stock pads but the swap made them fun. 7XX is my favorite tuning.
