Allen & Heath Xone XD2-53 vs Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2ANV for DJ use...

I have the ATH-PRO700MK2 and find it VERY uncomfortable and I find the sound muddied with bloated bass. I've never worn the Allen & Heath.

Neither are comfortable, and both are moderately durable.

What is your budget?

Have you considered the Ultrasone DJ1 (counterpart to the HFI-580) or DJ1 Pro (counterpart to the Pro 550)? Both are very durable, have impactful sound (the DJ1 moreso than the DJ1 Pro), and are comfortable enough (debatable, some find them uncomfortable, some find them ok, they're not too comfortable but personally they work just fine), and would suit DJing, considering your specified budget.

If you can stretch your budget further, you can also consider the Pioneer HDJ-2000.

The XD-53 and the ATH-PRO700MK2 aren't as detailed as either the DJ1 or the DJ1 Pro. The ATH-PRO700MK2 have a strong bass presence, but it's of quite low quality, IMHO, while the DJ1/DJ1 Pro have much more defined bass. Also, both Ultrasones have 50mm drivers, although I don't think you should be going under the idea that bigger headphone drivers will perform better.

And it's important you're aware that both XD-53 and ATH-PRO700MK2 have very shallow pads that become uncomfortable quickly, so when doing long listening sessions, they physically hurt the ears, not just causing discomfort.

Thank you very much for your advice! It was very helpful! I am just curious... I have heard a lot about the sound of ATH-PRO700MK2s but not for the sound of XD2-53s... How would you describe it?
