I'm seeking some guidance.
After trying a DT-990 Pro, AKG K551, AKG K701, I discovered the beautiful HD-650 <3 
 
Now, I'm wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade my amp/dac since it appears that HD-650 is scaling up well with better gear. 
 
Please note that the idea of Beyerdynamic A1 isn't coming from nowhere, it's just that I can buy it new for about 480$.
 
Although it should obviously be better, do you think it's worth it?
 
It appears I would need a DAC too to complete it, so there is that too

Comes with USB (32-bit/3864K) and optical and coaxial inputs.
Should have no problem driving 300-Ohm headphones (HD650).

I'm assuming you already have the Essence ST?
I removed my Essence STX when i got my NFB-15.32.

I do have the ST, yes. It cost me around 70 $ new so it was a pretty good value to start with, I shouldn't have any issue reselling it.
 
Audio-GD NFB-11 looks good!
 
Although, I came across the Bottlehead Crack + Speedball idea that has the reputation of being very good with an HD-650 for about 440$ shipped.
There's also the O2+ODAC for less than 250$...
