I got an Asus EEE PC 1000H last week. The netbook aspect is irrelevant but I was surprised when I plugged in my headphones... the sound quality is outstanding for a laptop/computer/netbook.

Soundstage, bass and best of all, total lack of hiss and that annoying noise that is usually present.

Perhaps my standards are low but I've compared it mostly to the similar computer gear I own/use (no top quality sound cards) and to those other sources using my external USB DAC (Meier Corda Move).

Headphones tested were the Mylar X3 (easy to spot amp noise), Sony MDR-CD3000 and Koss PortaPro.

I have yet to try the netbook with the Corda, but it sure was a nice bonus...

I have an older Asus laptop , the F3SV series which I purchased in the summer of 2007 (now 1.5 years old). I used to have my headphones running from it directly from the headphone jack in it, and without having heard from a DAC or headphone Amp before, thought it was not bad at all until I heard music through a Nuforce Icon Mobile and Auzentech Prelude
