Audeze LCD-2 Orthos

Thanks for the info.  I always assumed that the HE-500 had more transparency because I found the HE-4 less veiled than the LCD-2 rev1.  With that said, I go with the LCD-2 because of that same authority you speak of and the intimacy of the LCD-2 can be very charming.

I guess those impressions will vary. Without elaborating any further p.t.; the LCD-2 sounds more natural than the HE-500 (I own both). I can understand why some find the HE-500 an enjoyfull headphone though. I do as well. But the LCD-2 portrays the music more authorative. IMHO.

And I "just" own LCD-2 rev.1...and the HE-500 is more veiled.

I think the lcd2 does better with vocal music and the he500 does better with non vocal music. That may change with the lcd2 r2.

Yup, I've heard the previous LCD-2s and felt it was dark, more closed in and laid back in comparison (subtly, but noticeable for me).  I prefer the HE-500s at the cost of less detail retrieval but what to my ears are better tonal balance and more air.  This is why the r.2's seem promising.

A note regarding the HE-500: Often it is about amp synergy. The LCD-2s synergy with the Burson HA-160d and the Violectric V200 is very good, but as far as the HE-500 goes, the former amp is surprisingly not that a good match in my ears. The V200 is better.

Also true.  The r.1s were thoroughly disappointing to me from the WA-6SE (and pretty much every non-DIY sub-$2K amp I've heard it with except the Lyr).  The HE-500 on the other hand were excellent to my ears with the 6SE (one of the best pairings I've heard period).

This may change with the r.2s as well but with this I'm more skeptical and cautious (as I really like the 6SE and have no plans of buying a $2K amp.)  Decisions, decisions.

Thanks, WarriorAnt!  It's nice to know that I wasn't hearing things.

Thanks WA. :)

So now I´m sitting here enjoying myfirst  LCD-2 with my Q-Audio cable on the V200 and don´t miss a thing soundwise, except craving for the rev. 2 upgrade. Maybe I´ll pass. Maybe I don´t. :)

From what I can see you like to collect gear so I'm gonna say..................you'll go for it...................nothing wrong though with the LCD-2 r.1, it's not like they stopped being a great headphone. I just think they should have called the r.2 the LCD-3.

My wife convinced me to get a small speaker set up for one of our smaller rooms. So I'm looking for an integrated tube amp for that room

Is this wife real, or a moniker for the 'gear portion' of your conscience? ;¬)

I'd be very interested to know which speakers you opt for.

I guess tube amp is all abt picking the right tubes. Cuz from what I heard abt WA 6. It should successfully drive most dynamic headphones.

Hm. I have a (vague) feeling you´re right.

I guess we´re all cavemen (aka collectors), so if I decie to collect headphones; I´ll start with the LCD-x line.

She's a veteran audiophile wife with lots of burn in already.

Geee.. the sibilance, grit, and glare was probably horrible before the burn in.
