I think it's useful to know where that link came from and the briefing...Kind of sad that Audeze is more known as a gaming headphone company, then for audiophilia.
The link is a tech site so of course they'd understand the gaming connection. And Sony, being a listed company, will need to explain to their shareholder why they have the acquisition.. they probably heard the best they could do with the PlayStation headphones, heard Audeze's and thought, well, that's interesting, we need that.
What will be more interesting is that Sony (Sony Electronics not Entertainment) also do headphones, although not to the same degree of precision of Audeze's stuff. Wonder what a pair of ZIR with electrostatic drivers would look like
