Been on here for a few days trying to pick my next set, and have now settled down on one of these 2 (although the DT770's are still in my mind). I have tried to find a comparison between the 2 and just can't seem to. I can get the 700's on Amazon for $130 or the 900's for $200, so I really want to know if the price is worth it. And I am also looking for a carrying case for them and wondering if it would be at all worth getting a FiiO E6 and L9 to go with them for use with my iPad (main device I will use them for). The 700x has less mid-bass and warmth than the 900x.
 
I would spring for the 900x if you can. I wouldn't really bother with the 700x.
 
Alternatively the SoundMAGIC HP-100 and the Beyer DT770 are excellent closed headphones in that range too.

Think I'll just get the best I can and go for the 900's, really don't want to be spending over 200.

What about a cheap hard case for them (i'll be taking them to school and around so really want to make sure they don't get destroyed), and how are the ear pads? Are they fine, and is it a nice leather? Or should i be checking ebay or somewhere for some velour replacements?

If you want a hard case that fits, you'll need to find a case that is simply large. I would probably look at a Pelican crush-proof that you can custom fit the inside. Most normal headphone carry cases will not fit the design of the tension bars of the AudioTechnica & AKG's that utilize that setup.

The 900X is significantly better than the 700X.

if you buy the A700X, you will always wonder what the A900X sounds like.  Buy the headphone first before buying a case so you can realize how big they are and judge if you need a case, bag, stand etc.

Hi im new to this. Can you tell me which headphone is better DT770 80 ohms or A900x?
I listen to wide variety of music Metal,Rap.Reggae,Pop and Christian music.I also dont plan on getting a amp either(possibly an E6). My source is walkman z series if this helps(I love it! when its not glitchy).
Could you also tell me how they compare to HFI-780 ultrasones(i own a pair).
Im looking for headphones that are bassy,comfy and have good sound.
