I have a 3rd-generation iPod Shuffle (the one with no buttons), and I'm buying a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50 Pro Studio Monitor cans from Amazon soon. Though I will mostly use the new cans on my computer for composition and production, I may want to use them to augment my WeSC Maraca cans currently being used with the Shuffle. Would I need to amp them if I wanted to use them on the Shuffle or should they be okay?

Thanks! I'm ordering them as I write.

Best with an amp
Great without one

I don't think they would be good for production, but whatever

You can't use any headphones without an amp. In this case the one already inside your digital audio player will do the job just fine.[/pedantry]

I already have two amps, so I was probably going to end up trying it out with one of mine anyways eventually. The ATH M50 is in the mail, so I'll be sure to do so.
