Looking for some suggestions. Price range prob around $300...been reading about em, seems like they can go either way. Some are great and have everything, others not so much. Have read some have really slow load times. Read that PS3 has probably the best but I dont want/need a PS3. Anyone out there buy a stand alone Blue Ray player they recommend? Thanks.

The Panasonic 35 and 55 usually have great user reviews as compared to the rest.

Good luck

the Sony BDP-S350 is under $300 the S550 is a little over $300 at amazon

both are profile 2.0 players

the 550 is basically the 350 but with the addition of internal DTS-HD decoding and 7.1ch analog outputs

both can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD
the 350 can internally decode TrueHD (but not DTS-HD)

from what i hear load times are pretty fast

dvd upscaling isn't the best
the auto framerate setting doesn't always work (some discs are reported to not properly switch to 1080p30 so you need to do it manually before watching those discs if you have a TV that can accept 1080p24)

I own a panasonic bd-35 and love it. Great picture quality, quick load times, easy to use and configure. I would recommend either the bd35 or the bd55 depending on your audio equipment and needs. I may have misremembered but I believe the difference is the bd-35 can only output 7.1 through hmdi, other outputs are 5.1 through optical out, and analog stereo out. If you need 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs then you should look at the bd55.
