What's your opinion of the 6080? I run a vintage 6080 in my Darkvoice and like it so far, it wasn't a huge improvement in sound over the stock Chinese big bottle (I got pretty luck with my stock tubes, no hum good sound), but the 6080 runs so much cooler than the stock one. Have you run different brands of the 6080? Any standouts?

I have only tried the stock GE6080 that came with the Crack and also the Russian Winged C Svetlana 6A7SG which I wasn't too keen on.

I like the Thomson so much that I'll be buying another one soon to stock up on. It's a nice quiet clean transparent sounding tube that suits both the Sennheiser HD600 and the DT1990 for me.

Wow, that looks amazing, I bet the sound is crazy!
The sound is wonderful, the warm-ish sound of the Elise and the bright-ish sound of the 1990's works so well, and both scale up very well too, with better tubes, at the mo I'm using british military CV1052 tubes, which give an incredible depth of sound, warm, yet transparent with lots of detail and energy, 3d imaging from this combo is the best from any, headphone/amp set up I've ever used, and I've had plenty of them!.

I love the beyerdynamic Dt 1990 but it struggles with a decent amp, it's begging for mercy

Put my Mr speakers Aeon on and that struggles but not so much as the beyerdynamic Dt 1990,wimps of the headphone world

I don't wanna be limited to the headphone I choose

Any headphones out there with balls ?

From currently-made Beyers, the T1.2 and the Amiron Home scale up better than the DT 1990, the better the system the bigger the gap in my experience. It became apparent to me the DT 1990 is tuned for professional usage, tuned to sound good out of most everything but also seems to hit a brick wall in terms of scaling, the Sennheiser HD 660 S(the HD 650 is better on a higher end system than the HD 660 S) is similar in this aspect. This is the reason I chose the Amiron Home and T1.2 over the DT 1990. This makes the DT 1990 great for the average system but it's not the best choice for a summit-fi systems. Honestly the T1.2, HD 800 S, some of the Focals and various other dynamics would be better choices with high end gear in terms of dynamic headphones. I am wanting to hear the MySphere 3, hopefully will be able to in the coming months. The reason my modded DT 480 is my main headphone is because it never seems to stop improving with mods and better systems, I get this uncanny feeling that it's potential is limitless, plus when driven well it's essentially impossible to distort, I haven't experienced that with any other headphone I've owned.

How many DT 1990 owners are amping with a tube amp? I run mine through a modified Darkvoice 336SE (fitz mod and preamp bypass) with some vintage tubes... anybody else?
I use my DT 1990 with a Woo Audio WA2 - they seem made for each other!

People I have problem. This headphones spoiled me... I'm looking for portable option and I tried iSine 10, SINE, V Moda M100, V Moda XS, B&W PX and I'm pretty disappointed with every of them, M100 are probably my favorite in bunch. My question is...are there any options with similar sound signature to 1990?

The DT1770. That’s if you regard them as ‘portable’!? lol

You may want to check out the Takstar Pro 82. I have the first revision with more sparky treble and longer 2.2m cable. Though the second version should be close enough. For me, the sound signature is quite similar to the DT 1990, except that mids seem to be a little more forward.

Acctualy that’s good choice, how are they soundwise?

They sound phenomenal. Obviously not exactly like the 1990's but highly recommended. Sensational build quality, very comfortable for on ears and heavily discounted at the moment depending on where you live.

But as always I recommend auditioning them 1st. Guarantee you buy them!!
