If I got the Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro's, would they sound fine through an iPod touch 4g with no amp?

DT770 Pro 80-Ohm? or DT770 Pro 250-Ohm?
I'm going to think no with the 250-Ohm.
Not sure on the 80-Ohm.
A Fiio E11 ($60) portable headphone amplifier can easily drive both DT770 models.

Might be better to look at other headphones, something under 50-Ohms, to play it safe.
Have you checked out the Audio Technica ATH-A900X, only 38-Ohm.

I am definitely going to recommend a dedicated amp for any dt770. Though one strength of beyerdynamic headphones (80 or 250 ohm) is that they are extremely forgiving of amplification. In other words, they will sound almost the same no matter what you plug them into. Rest assured they will sound great out of a portable. Though make it a goal to get an amplifier as soon as you can in order to get the most out of them.

So with that's said, if I invested in the e11, would you recommend these?

( I own the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm, DT770 Pro 250-ohm and ATH-A900X).
I would still push for the ATH-A900Xs, sound quality is a step above the DT770.
And should work fine without an add-on amp.

Okay great. Do you know how the A900Xs compare to the m50s? They are in the same price range for the most part and I've heard a lot about those so I'm just curious.

The ATH-M50s might have a "bigger" sounding bass, where as the ATH-A900X would have a more detailed bass.
But the ATH-A900X should out do everything else compared to the ATH-M50.

I think the ATH-A900X sound better then the Beyer DT770 Pros,
and I think the Beyer DT770s sound better then the ATH-M50s.

Okay thanks. And one more question, kind of off topic. Where do you buy headphones? I hear about fakes going around so I'm kind of nervous about buying them off eBay or Amazon.

Fakes seem to come from China (sold on eBay).
So buying headphones shipped from with in the USA should be fine.
