500+ Head-Fier
The way I do it is by wrapping the cable at the connection with a small piece of cloth and pulling.
Does anyone know if the B400 will sound good/roughly the same when driven by a smartphone? (Samsung Galaxy S7) I believe its output impedance is 5.8 Ohms.
Thank you
I apologize if it's already been asked, but what is the difference between the stock cable and the frosty/onyx upgrade cables?
Hey guys, I got my B400 yesterday, a review unit - thanks very much to @razzer001. Will be saving my impressions for the upcoming review, and I'll wait to answer any questions until then as well... but for now just a quick question:
Is there a special way to connect / remove the MMXC type of of IEM cables? (the round coaxial type connection that these use). Removing the stock cable was such a challenge I had to resort to wedging the back of a knife to pry it off with brute force (which also easily scuffed up both IEMs a bit), but then when inserting the balanced cable it seemed as if there may be some groove that needs to be aligned if I'm not mistaken to properly connect it. Now the problem is that by the time I connected the balanced cable, seems the connection base inside the IEM could have been loosened, as the balanced cable just barely clicked when connecting, and now is slightly loose rocking back / forth and swirls around easily. I wanted to see how these 'babies scale with solid state amps, but now I'm afraid to remove the balanced cable ever again, for fear of deforming the connection base on the IEM which seems to perhaps be a somewhat pliable copper or brass material... so was I doing it wrong? And would you say it's safe to swap out cables a few more times or should I just leave the balanced cable on? Thanks...
Great review, Brooko. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I wonder how it compares to Mee Audio P1, which I currently own. I think some Headfiers would be interested too.
Hi, any idea how the B400 compares to other highly rated hybrid iems such as the FLC 8s? How does the clarity, details and bass impact compare? Also, i have small ears that fit the shure 215 poorly(hence why i adore the flc 8s's tiny body). how does the b400's body compare to the shure 215 body? is it larger or smaller? thanks.
Sorry for the delays with these
P1 has slightly more bass volume, but because its a dynamic vs BA has more bass impact. B400 is quicker though. P1 more V shaped, and more upper end energy. B400 more balanced and (IMO) a better and more coherent mid-range. B400 a lot easier to drive.
+1 , nice work ,Couple notes from me. I've been comparing the B200 v1, B200 v2, and B400 for the past hour swapping between standard and upgraded frosty cable.
Regardless, the B200 and B400 are spectacular sounding earphones and for a great price! My favorite of the combinations would have to be the B200 v2 with upgraded cable.
- With standard cables, the v1 is quite a bit louder than the v2 at the same volume. Using my clip+ I go about 5db lower with the v1 to match volume.
- Upgraded cable sounds brighter, maybe a bit cleaner. v1 vs v2 with frosty definitely sounds different, where as its nearly indistinguishable if v2 is on stock.
- My upgraded cable is loose on one side on v2 and B400, creating easier earpiece swivel and has extra wiggle in the socket. Another user has also reported this. Stock cable rock solid.
- B400 with frosty nearly too bright for me when compared directly to stock cable. Although, frosty on the v2 sounds absolutely lovely! Better than stock v2 or v1.
- Cinch on upgraded cable is very, very loose and slides down the cable. This makes getting rid of the somewhat severe microphonics an issue if cable is routed down back.
- Housing on v1 a bit smaller and smoother than v2 due to non-removable cable. Comfort is better on v1 due to smaller strain reliefs for easier cable routing and much better cinch.
- Overall, I cannot recommend v2 over v1 unless using upgraded cable for better sound, but that also brings some issues of its own so its a trade off (loose cinch, very microphonic, YMMV with memory wire).
This probably means your ears are slightly different in shape. Try using a different size tip in that ear going one size smaller. I use a smaller tips size in my right ear for example. It's weird, the left one hurts more than the right one. No one else has experienced discomfort with these? I'm 6' tall so not a small person.
I'm using the Comply so that shouldn't be an issue. The discomfort isn't in my canal but on the back most area (fathest away from my face) where it presses a bit against my ear. Like I feel like if it was a millimeter shorter it wouldn't be a problem. This probably means your ears are slightly different in shape.
