Cayin HA-3A, a Compact 6V6s Transformer-coupled Tube Amplifier

So to sum it up. HA-3A and HA-6A got a similar punch, HA-3A felt more transparent, but HA-6A has vastly bigger soundstage? My idea is to combine HA-3A with Holo Spring 3 KTE which is known for adding really big stage, maybe this could balance it out. I really dont want to switch to HA-6A since the tube cost are significantly higher than for HA-3A and I enjoy rolling tubes for 3A a lot :)

HA-6A is more transparent. If you enjoy your HA-3A well, then stick with it :)

What tubes in the 300MKII?

I really like the HA 6A, an excellent buy and great sound. They of do sound a little different, but IMO, not a lot, between the 300MKII and the 6A. Right now using the Elrog ER and GEC 6J5G X 4. The 6J5 coming before the 6SN7 with the 76 coming before the 6J5. GEC sound extremely good with lots of air and excellent spacial presentation.

In the 6A I am using some Flying C SED EL34s and some ultra rare 7318 (12AU7 type) tubes. The 7318 are a 20,000 hour tube.

Sick look on your HA300-II !!

I compared both of them with stock tubes.

... working my way up the food chain, today it was time for the Liric.
Similar to the Aeon 2 Closed the Liric runs exceptionally well on the HA-3A ... I didn't expect that (no noise, no hiss, no nothing, just pure pleasure).
I sold my Burson Soloist 3XP prior to the HA-3A and was a little worried that I will miss him, but the HA-3A is so much better:)
Currently feels a little hard to get back to solid state again ... :sunglasses:

I have solid state, tube and have also built both and nothing can equal a well built tube system. Very linear when done correctly and holographic. And so much more fun.

It’s only been a week since receiving the HA-3A, but I have been in love with the ZMF VC pairing. (Un)fortunately, I have a few sets of tubes on the way to start the rolling experiments. Cheers!

Hi everyone,

Does this amp have enough power to run LCD 4's? I cannot find the power output at 300hms to get a sense of how much power it has.

@Louisiana uses the LCD4 with the HA-3A. Never heard him complaining of to little power.

It says there is 850mW at high gain on the 4 pin XLR but I dont know at what impedance its outputting that power?

The 3A's max power output is 850mW on XLR in high impedance mode. Audeze suggests 500mW+ for the LCD4, so on paper it should be fine. I don't know if that is enough headroom though for the LCD4 without trying it.
Sensitivity on the LCD4 is only 97 dB/mW which is also not a scary value. More than likely you should be fine.

At this impedance levels the current output is much more important than the raw power. HA-3A has a ton of current for the LCD-4. So no need to worry!
I understand now however its just a bit weird not to post the output power at certain impedances on the spec sheet or anywhere else. Most other companies post the output power at 16,32,150 & 300ohms

Don't worry about the specs. Just try the various outputs and impedance settings (these aren't gain settings) with each headphone. It takes some experimenting but to me there ends up being a sweet spot that just sounds right for each headphone. It's fantastic to have this option on the amp.

My Auteur and Atrium sound the best out of the standard 1/4" output on the medium setting. My Utopia sound best out of the 4.4mm output on low or medium. The T60RP did require the 4 pin XLR output in high.

Thanks I will order the unit this week but I just wanted to make sure it has the power. I have the Schiit Lyr + but I have had 2 units fail on me in the space of 2 weeks so I am done with that amp now. The Lyr + has an amazing sound on the tube mode but it just kept failing and not working so I want something that will sound even better and that will work without issues.
