Just received my HA-6A today, so far beats the pants off anything I've had in the past when paired with the Atrium Open & Closed. Have some SE KT88s and GL 12AU7's on the the way, should arrive Monday.
I agree!

Managed to buy some Silvertone branded Japanese black plates 22DE4s from eBay recently. They look like rockets ready to be launched LOL. Swopped out my existing RCAs for a change.

Mids became more forward, vocals much clearer, bass hits harder and a greater sense of realism although the staging effect (vs RCA) is less pronounced. Always good to have choices. Although conventional wisdom is that rectifier tubes have minimal influence relative to the driver and power tubes, in the case of Cayin amps, rectifiers do have a disproportionate impact on the sound.

HA-6A is such a great amp. So many ways to finetune and dial in to the sound one likes.

The heart of any amp is the power supply. Rectifiers are extremely important and will have a very big impact on the final sound. The ac musical signal rides on the DC.

Thanks @jamato8. BTW, since you own both the HA-6A and HA-300 MK2, have you ever tried 6SN7 or 6S5S (with adapters) on the HA-6A? Will these work and not damage the unit ? Just curious to find out if there are more tubes to “upgrade” to; beyond the 12au7/ecc82 and e80cc for driver tubes.

Too much current draw with the adapted tubes. I use a box plate tube for the input, which is more of an 12AT7 type.

That’s interesting. Didn’t know that HA-6A can use 12AT7/ecc81 type of tubes. Thanks for the feedback.

A little more gain, not much. I use the 7062 from Holland. A nice box plate tube, with great sound. I also use the Japanese grey plate rectifiers and while I have a huge variety of NOS power tubes, I like the KT88 Gold Lion.
