What is this for and will I get better bass if I remove it?
It's for the HFI-780s. I love the vocal clarity and spacious sound for a closed headphone. But I miss the sub bass that you get with other headphones like the pro900, but the HFI are much more engaging for music listening pleasure imo. Yes I'm using a good dac/amp with good eqing and removed the stickers covering the ports.
