Location: HQ in the UK, but spread far and wide.
Here at iFI we're looking into designing our own bespoke app for use with our products. This would replace the GIAA app that users need to use at present.

Although the main purpose of this app would be firmware updates, we'd love your ideas on:

  • what other features we could include?
  • how to make it easy to use and intuitive?
  • how you'd like it to look?
...and please add anything else you can think of, even utilities that haven't been done before!

We love a bit of 'crowd design' here at iFi and, after all, you guys are going to be the ones using it!

Don’t know if that’s a pure software thing, but I’d love to see an ambient mode with Go Blu and Go Pod! :)

Look at the Qudelix-5K App and implement whatever possible, as much as possible, or whatever you consider feasible :)

Parametric EQ. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

Most folks will find the usual presets (rock, jazz, vocal etc.) intuitive, but I hear you regarding parametric adjustments. I don't see a reason why one should exclude the other, but that's up to our software devs

Well, I know quite a few people on this hobby and none of them use those presets. It's either parametric EQ o bass boost like Ifi xbass. I think that an app without that would be a missing opportunity to bring new customers.

Check out the Q5k app. They absolutely nailed it. PEQ, AutoEQ inclusive, immense detail about the hardware, instant customization etc

Let's expand the conversation a bit...

What if the new app was all-inclusive, in other words not only GIAA App functionality but incorporate Streaming functionality, as Zen Stream and NEO Stream currently use a separate app called Stream-iFi.

What if we had everything rolled into one, or one app to rule them all...:L3000:

Post your thoughts on this as well!!

Cheers!!

What do you mean by all inclusive? I haven't used the Zen or Neo Stream so I haven't seen their functionality.

Personally, I feel like the main purpose of the app should be a way to control the volume of the device, enter PEQ values, monitor the charge / battery of the device and help make connecting to the device as easy as possible. I have used the Sonos before and their app has features to login and include spotify / other streaming services, but it's not super useful imo. I would rather rely on Airplay, Cast or or built in audio stack to handle the other aspects while the app only controls basic features very graunlarly.

Simple, streamlined and functional should be the goals. Anything else is a bonus.

By all-inclusive I mean Streaming functionality, as well as the updates section, and all the things you mentioned.

Think in terms of perhaps a BluOS, or Stream Magic from Cambridge!

Cheers!!
